The future looks bright ehhh?

Kind of reminds me of the '80s when turbos showed up on damn near everything. Going for power and economy together.

I think all the major players are in the turbo game now, once Toyota gets on.

That MR2 hybrid looks kinda nice, too bad it likely won't make it to production. Although it would be better imo if they would shed the hybrid and CVT. V6 Mid engine AWD from Toyota would be a real pleasure to drive IMO.

I think it eventually will in some form or the other. They have had prototypes of it on the ring some years aback, and the mid engined, awd hybrid setup has been played with multiple times. From the Volta concept to the MR2 Sports Hybrid concept, it's the same underpinnings/concept. Toyota tend not to make frivolous concepts, I think we will see it someday.

It's good to hear. Decades ago, Toyota's reliability was on the top even though their cars were equipped with turbos. This time they will be the leader in fuel efficiency and power again. They have been developing electric turbo so for long, so I hope electric turbo will make it way to hybrid cars.

As long as they remember proper head gasket torque specs, they will be fine.

Side note about AWD mid engine hybrids, this is something that the FIA is looking at for F1 in 2012 or 2013 (pending agreement by teams, so who knows).

Hope The ft86 gets a electric turbo (proper term would be electrical centrifugal compressor since turbo is from turbine)

Direct Injection...:hitcomputer: This....but without the DI.

The electric part is just for the quick spool up, it will still be a turbine. Electrically assisted turbo would be the correct term.

I hate this part "start-stop technology" hope the FR-S wont get it! I remember back in the late 90's I was reading this magazine the article says or predicted that the future is most car makers will turn to smaller engines with turbos that make lots of mpg yet give you same fun, i guess the future is near lol. O yeah i was watching dicovery HD theater about future tech a scientist say "we are on a time when we must save fuel but people still want fun cars to drive the key is weight, car makers are hard at work making small engines that makes great MPG with lighter chassis" i hope we see more of that.

oooh did not know its setup like this, last i heard of electric compressors was in regards to standalone units. this is even better, cus the standalone would drain so much power

you maam clearly dont know what direct injection means in terms of petrol, so keep your trolling mouth shut

Electric spool, IMO, is the future. Sure, systems like "anti-lag" are awesome, but they're just plain inefficient when you can instead have an electric motor keeping that turbine at a proper rpm!
