OFT 93 Octane tune...

Sorry, stupid question that has been asnwered, but damned if I can find it.

We have 92 octane here. OK to try the 93 tune both with straight gas and the E85 mix left over after running a full tank of E85 then filling with gas?

Please post the link to the thread if it's been answered, thanks!

ETA: Stock.

I will give you my advice: Run the lesser aggressive tune, i.e 91oct. 92oct E10 still produces a fair bit of knock on OTS 93oct maps if environmental conditions are right, and since you're so close to me environmentally I will wager that this will be true on an average day with a 100% properly working stock system

even with the E85 still in the system, no guarantees that the mixture will be uniform or above the 93 threshold

Always go on the safe side.

Backing up above posts. Always be on the safe side. 92 octane on a 93 tune can still lead to excessive knock.

Thanks, dudes!

Most will tell you not to bother buying and adding octane booster because it is too expensive. But going from 92 to 93+ should be easy, and maybe you could get a few tanks out of a bottle.

Cali only has 91OCT so every now and then I tune to 93 and add octane booster. Get two tanks out of one bottle, so adds a out &5-6 dollars to the total cost of a tank.

I have found that the engine is much much happier with gas about 91 OCT

I'm not using octane booster, going from gas to E85 and back again.

I know, but im saying if you want to run the 93OCT map instead of E85

I used to run E85 and would switch back and forth to 91 or 93 if I had octane booster. You can watch the fuel trims and they do bounce around a bit after running E85 and flashing back to a gas. Just play it save and use the 91 map

I have 93 readily available and still preferred the 91 tune tbh. My car ran very nicely that way.

Tromatic 03-28-2015 12:46 AM

Well, I guess I need to find 93 octane around here.

Thanks again!

From what I have seen from my friends the 91 tune knocks on 91. I would for sure use the 91 tune for 92 gas.

Engine isn't happy or unhappy.. the problem with adding booster is inconsistency in both knowing the actual E%, octane number, and the treatment all have variances

People who are informed will advise against boosters due to this reason.. it's not because its too expensive by itself.. it's just an inconsistent treatment and one runs the risk of knock if octane adjustment is too little, or wasting $$ by over-octane adjustment

i used to run shell 93 and i got below IAM 1 so i tried with Sunoco 93 then i got steady 1 all time. since then i updated latest OFT and wanted to try data logging again and i see 0.76 on my IAM. i uploaded v2.063 but need to drive around 30-50 miles before i do datalogging. if i get below 1 again, i am just gonna switch to 91 OTS map instead of 93 to be safe.

My results for the pot !

When I ran stage 1, I ran Sunoco 91 non corn juice, and NEVER had knock, but for the track I did spice up the tank with a dash of Torco.

I changed to the 93 tune and used local kanuck 94 Petro-Can warm weather mix (with ethanol). After a year there was only one fill up that knocked, and 8 ounces of Torco cured it. Cheap fix.

When tracking at Mosport I use race gas.

Of all the combo's, the car definitely FEELS faster on race gas, but that could be because that's where the car is GOING FASTER than anywhere else.

Lucky, the gas has been good up here, but for 3rd world fuel areas or cars that can't read the ping from pre-ignition, a mild tune is safer.

(As for TORCO it has been used in varying quantities in my car for 3 years. My cats and plugs are fine, no deleterious effects etc. etc. as per all of the results of all those who use it.)

Good news -
I'm told that there is a new Canadian distributor in Ontario and it may be readily available soon.
