SCCA Touring 4 Non-Adjustable Shock absorbers
 

I am looking for shocks but I am very restricted because I want to race in the SCCA Touring 4 class.


SCCA T4 class requires non adjustable shocks but does allow Eibach 4.10582.880 Sportline kit.
They allow are SPC 67660 control arms
Tires will likely be 225/45/17 NITTO NT01
Engine will be stock with Cat delete and tune so Max 185-190 Whp




Does you have any recommendation on shocks? There looks to a very limited choice in non-adjustable shocks.

RCE Tarmac zero are non-adjustable but valved for the street. I think you're going to be looking at custom made shocks, eg., Bilsteins, MCS, etc.

Pick up some bilsteins b12 for use with the eibach springs

Confused a bit...

Are you required to use fixed perch non-height adjustable shocks? Or no damper adjustment? Or both...

Andy, below are the rules. I have a note into the SCCA as well.


T2-T4


The make of shock absorber may be changed. Their number, perch location(s), system of attachment, and attachment points shall not be altered. Their type (tube vs. lever, etc.) shall not be altered. The interchange of gas and hydraulic shock absorbers is permitted.
T4 only: (unless specified on spec line) Any non-adjustable shock absorber is allowed. The shock must be installed in the original mounting locations. Remote shocks are not permitted. Threaded shock bodies or adjusters may be used.
a. The mounting hardware utilized shall be of the original type.
b. The use of any shock absorber bushing material is permitted. Note: the bushing attaching the end of the strut to the body or frame on a strut-type suspension system is considered a suspension bushing, not a shock absorber bushing.
c. T2 only: minimum ride height is 3.75” inches. T3 and T4 only: minimum ride height is 4.5” inches.
Ride height to be measured without driver at the lowest point of the rocker panel, but not to include welded seams or fasteners.
d. T2-T4 only: Cars with alternate spring allowance in spec line, may use adaptors, and threaded perches to allow fitment of springs.

And then in the FR-S touring car classification, it also allows #15979 (Touring Committee) Place marker only T4: BRZ rear camber control arms

In T4, Subaru BRZ (2013-) and Scion FR-S (2013-), add the notes as follows:


Eibach 4.10582.880 and SPC 67660 allowed. Front strut tower brace allowed

I spoke to Jared who has a BRZ T4 yesterday and he has not been able to find any either. So let us know if you know anything out there.


I believe we can't use the Koni Sports because they have an inverted design

Yea, I know it doesn't specifically state orientation, so could get away with Konis.

Hmmm, perch locations may not change but threaded bodies are allowed?

Anyway, Koni Yellows are not inverted and are adjustable for damping. Bilstein B6 and B8 are inverted and non-adjustable. B14 are inverted with height adjustment. I don't think you could use Sportline springs with the B14s without an adapter lower perch, but I haven't really thought that through.

Custom valved Bilstein B6 would be my choice. Maybe play with the bumpstops some too.

Are the racing rules not like the Auto-X rules, where if it doesn't specifically say you can, that means you can't?

Took a second look at this today and realized I'd been stating the B14 when I meant B12. Email Bilstein and find out if the B12 sportline kit would work on 86. http://eibach.com/global/en/products.../b12-sportline

Typically, yes. But given the importance of the void here, and the significant lack of alternatives, someone has to attempt an application to get a resultant rule enforced.

It may also be worth writing a letter to the SCCA for a clarification. Does "any non-adjustable shock absorber" mean non-adjustable now or non-adjustable ever?

Because you could technically have an adjustable shock fixed in one position. I've done that in autocross when a three way shock is not allowed. We would just epoxy the high-speed adjuster, after testing to find the happy place for the adjustment of course. Disabling the adjustment was fine for the other competitors, who are really all you have to worry about anyway.
