Atlanta traffic
Hey guys,
I have a question for you local commuters. My work is moving to Duluth, and I'll be commuting from Fayette county (probably Marietta in a month or two) and am wondering how god awful traffic will be in a stick. It's been almost two years since I've done bumper to bumper in one (rarely) and it wasn't too awful, but wanted to get you guys opinions who do it every day. With this new job development I'm seriously considering going ahead and buying an 86 instead of waiting for all the new refreshes. I figure it's pretty much identical to the cars I've always had and loved, and I keep coming back to it. Thanks! |
I would check google maps' traffic over the course of when you expect to leave and depart for work. I can assure you driving into / through the city via 75 / 85 is beyond awful at peak hours.
If you are commuting from Marietta to Duluth, will you be taking 75 -> 285 -> 85? Luckily the clutch in this car is easy to operate. I don't mind it, but it can be tedious to some. |
Yep, unless I find a backroads option. I know 285 is God awful in rush hour so I'm looking to avoid that, and in the short term im taking 85 straight up.
That's what I remember from the test drives is a very easy clutch. Thanks! |
I can only speak on the 285 to 85 portion of it as I live on this side, but I'd guess 75-285 will be the worst of it. Going north on 85 is rarely bumper to bumper or constant stopping, from my limited experience. Only come from that direction a handful of times but it was pretty consistent and rarely any heavy delays. Heading the other way I'm not sure about.
As dhuang said the clutch is rather easy to use and i cant remember the last time it became tedious to operate. Sucks you gotta change to such a drive... Good luck bro. |

When I first got the FR-S I as doing Marietta (well Powder Springs) to Tucker (75->285->Lawerenceville Hwy). I also did it on a motorcycle regularly. It really depends on the time of day. If you have the option to go in early (say be in before 7:30, its not bad at all). I do have to say I've never really understood the whole "MT in traffic is a grind" thing though. It happens so automatically for me any longer I don't even notice I'm doing it either in a car or a bike. (And yes I have an AT6 in the 86, but it wasn't because of gear grinding, I just thought it was a cool option with the paddles). |

I would move closer to work if at all possible or prepare to waste hours everyday sitting in your car. |
Yeah, I'm moving to the marietta area kind of soon-ish. I'm just bracing for the sucky commute for the next month or two
