1 Day PortLando tripo

Hey my dear 86ers from Portland,

I am coming down on Sunday for a day trip with my significant other and was wondering what awesome places to check out? We are looking to enjoy some amazing local cuisine, some little sight seeing, shopping and of course voodoo doughnuts (Cuz they are bomb!!)........ What recommendations would u guys have?

Thanks so much in advance !

Andrew025 03-20-2015 06:03 AM

Voodoo is good... but if you want really good donuts, go to Blue Star.

chaoskaze 03-20-2015 06:06 AM

The 12x years old clam chowder place at Jake's. Had the best clam chowder (with crab meat) in my life there. Love it when I used to live there.

Food carts in down town Portland.

Salt and straw is a popular Portlandia adventure.

Koa 03-20-2015 02:10 PM

They've made it way too easy for me to blow money on their ice cream since they sell it at my work.

Bars are out of question (my gf is not 21 yet) and I'm planning to head home in the evening.

Food wise, I am looking for something local (food trucks will check out for sure!) - the clam chowder place looks awesome.

Chicken Waffles? Something that I wouldn't normally see in Washington would be a great start for cuisine.

Not interested in Indian and Mexican though (had too much of that recently lols)

Blue Star is on my list now!

Jonesy86 03-20-2015 03:28 PM

Brunch- gravy
lunch- little bird or lardo
dinner-olympic provisions (rdm will start around 6 if you want to see some cars)

Jonesy86 03-20-2015 03:31 PM

Screen door has chicken and waffles but it is NOT worth the wait.

gravy is ok.. consistency wise and fairly not too crazy lines at Tasty and Sons on NE Williams. Grab a coffee at Ristretto roasters if you're on the wait list or grab a pint at Lompoc 5th quadrant.

Beer, this weekend.. hit up Commons Brewery (i'll be there tomorrow and on sunday, their last weekend at this location before they move to the new place)

Don't miss The Commons and Upright brewing in my opinion.

Lardo..meh

Haven't been to Olympic provisions, but i've heard good things. Andina would be another choice but a reservation migh tbe a good idea unless you go past 9:30

Post up a new thread "Red Door Meet March 22nd" in here and people will come.

Breakfast:
Blue Star donuts and Pips > Voodoo. Voodoo has vegan donuts though if that matters.
or
Waffle Window
or my favorite
BeeSaw's

Lunch:
My favorite food carts are Cartlandia which is in SE Portland on 82nd Ave by Johnson Creek. It's also next to the springwater corridor trail if you guys like biking or walking.
or
One of my favorite places to get a burger is Foster Burger

Dinner:
Yama (Japanese)
Mucca Osteria (Italian)
Zaatar (Lebanese)
Portland City Grill (American with good view with window seat)

I could say more but I should actually do work while I'm at work instead of typing a Guide to Portland. ;)

You guys are spoiled! I recently saw they were serving it at blazer game tickets and stuff.

If it were me.

Pine state for breakfast
Killer burger for lunch
Papa Hayden is good for dessert but the line sucks.

Those doughnut shops are a quick grab and go. Imo.

rixter145 03-20-2015 05:19 PM

Have you guys heard of Screen Door? My friend has a picture with him and a gigantic chicken waffle.

Been mentioned above. I personally haven't been there because the wait is so long.

I'm gonna have to hit both of those places up.
How late are they actually open?

#944_10_Series_FRS 03-20-2015 09:39 PM

If you going down to Portland, should stop by Darren to check out his house/shop. Pho Van is next to his house/shop where you can swing by to eat before heading home.

Ultramaroon 03-20-2015 09:59 PM

Best Thai in the PNW is Monsoon. Pad Gra Praw is a weekly vice for me. Bring your laundry. You can do it next door.

rixter145 03-21-2015 12:33 AM

I will see if I have time to swing by darren's :P.
Any good southern food recommendation? really want to dig some of that fried chicken

For luc lac. On weekends till like 4 in the morning. The food is more for drunk food then it is about quality.

Jonesy86 03-23-2015 08:37 PM

So what did you end up doing?

Llilith 03-23-2015 08:40 PM

Bread and Ink Cafe for chicken and waffles. If you've already made your trip - maybe next time. :)

Headed towards Portland.. and got pulled over for speeding at Thurston County... [just my luck. Wasn't going > 10 speed limit except for that little bit when I wanted to catch up to this bloody elantra] :sigh:

Went to Lardo when we got here at around 1. Blue star donut was packed!! So we ate first and then by the time we went back they were all sold out. (next time -_-)

Then proceeded to do some shopping at wood burn outlets. Went to RDM for a little bit but saw no 86ers and left. Decided to eat at the food truck for dinner ... the Thai place forgot what it's called. Cheap and good!

Drove over to Voodoo Doughnuts to get the batch for friends and finally ended the night here by going to Dutch Bros for coffee ... they gave me a free 911 since it was my first time there. Tasted amazing and kept me awake for the drive back.
