SCCA Track Night in America

Got this email from SCCA recently. Looks kinda cool... bout time SCCA got into the grass roots track game:

You got a car, right? Wanna have fun with it on a real race circuit? Then SCCA Track Night in AmericaTM is for you.

Track Night in America Driven by Tire Rack with partial support from the FIA Sport Grant Programme is "The Fastest Way to Get on Track" for any automotive enthusiast. No previous on-track experience needed. Only things required are a street car in good condition, a driver's license and a helmet. It is a good idea to also bring a desire to have some fun and hang out for the evening with others that share your passion for automobiles or driving.

From complete novice to advanced driver, Track Night in America is a fantastic way to spice up boring weekdays with an hour of on-track excitement for every participant. And with guidance from professional SCCA instructors provided for those exploring track driving for the very first time, fun is the focus. Looks like a great program, but all the events local to me are in the May-August timeline...have they been to Phoenix in summer? Temp stays above 100 past midnight.

I really wanna support this but I don't like driving a low HP car with the a/c on, and I don't like the inside of my car to smell like a high school locker room.

They don't spell this out but I hope they have separate run groups based on previous experience, or there's gonna be some serious conga lines.

Yea, I agree Phoenix in the Summer might not be the best idea but at least you have the option to signup. I've also been known to skip an event or 2 here in NorCal to avoid the discomfort of swamp ass as well as add'l wear and tear on my cars.

Their email does have a link that specifies run groups from driving school thru advanced.

Thanks for the link! $35 for a 20 minute session if you do run/work is pretty spectacular. I might try and make the May event at least.

I think the more attractive thing that SCCA just announced is the Bracket Enduro races. It sounds like an alternative to ChumpCar / LeMons.

Two different target audiences. "Attractive" depends on which audience you're in.

The common theme with the two is that the SCCA is playing catchup on performance driving/racing trends from the last ten years, and that both these efforts are being led directly by the national office. In years past the SCCA tried to promote PDX/Club Trials as an alternative to HPDE, but left implementation up to individual regions. Most did not bother to put together a program, let alone one that actually ran well as a standalone program. It floundered in my region in particular, along with SCCA club racing of any sort in the state of AZ - probably not unrelated, but another story for another time.

It's good that the SCCA is thinking more like a business and trying to squeeze itself into the market in ways that add unique value. Hopefully with the national office in charge they can cut through the "we've always done it this way" fools at the regional level to put together something cool.

LoL. I think n8dog read "can't recommend it" instead of "can't recommend it enough"

They've had several at PBIR, which is a little North of West Palm Beach. Looks like the next one there is June 11.
