Man its ugly. But there's no denying that the Mazda 2 and Fiesta are pretty much the only machines that offer a good driving experience that you'll find new for within 7k. I've had the unfortunate experince of driving the new civic, elantra, cruze, dart and corolla within the last year. All made me want to kill myself in despair, the only good drive of the bunch was the 2.
IF the scion were cheaper than the mazda, it would make a lovely third car to drive so I can make the FRS a pure track toy. Just sayin haha |

The 2 is probably going to be the best subcompact 4 door in it's range. Sure it's got econobox styling, but were talking about a high volume model which across the board tend to look a little "me too". Let's see if they car gets any more styling (wheels, tires, etc) prior to launch. The interior could be pretty nice if it follows the 2's interior in the JDM. http://media.caranddriver.com/images...-s-986x603.jpg http://media.caranddriver.com/images...-s-986x603.jpg http://media.caranddriver.com/images...-s-986x603.jpg http://media.caranddriver.com/images...-s-986x603.jpg http://media.caranddriver.com/images...-s-986x603.jpg Otherwise, its a Mazda 2 which ain't necessarily a bad thing if the price is $15-$16k. Car and Driver seemed to really like the hatch (even the styling) http://www.caranddriver.com/mazda/mazda-2 |
I think people are overreacting. This car is a huge improvement compared to the xa or xd.

Like I mentioned in the other thread. The Mazda 2 that this is based on is expected to be the best car in this class. There won't be a Mazda 2 sedan in the U.S. So keep in mind that the iA's competition (subcompact sedans) are not exactly a bunch of "lookers" here. Compared to any of the below the iA acquits itself nicely (especially the interior). http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...7&postcount=33
Subcompact 4-door Sedans Kia Rio Ford Fiesta Chevy Sonic Hyundai Accent Nissan Versa 4 doors like the Honda Civic, Ford Focus, and Chevy Cruze are in another class (Compact) and are a step up in price, size, amenities, and performance. These cars don't compete directly with the iA. |
That is one goofy looking car. The Sonic, Accent, Rio and particularly the Fiesta are all IMO vastly better looking. Can't believe it's just a different front clip from the 2 though, that's pretty silly. 1980s/1990s GM style badge engineering right there.

As a rebadged Mazda 2, that means the Scion iA will have a better interior and be more enjoyable to drive than anything with a Toyota badge on it that's currently in a show room.
However, the Mazda body styling is mucho better. If I needed a commuter car the first place I'd be is on a Mazda lot. 2, 3, 6 and maybe a new CX-3 for the girlfriend. |
Forget sub-compacts. If Toyota wants Scion to succeed they should rebadge a proper micro-ute like the 2016 CX-3.
Put a Scion Badge on this and enjoy the lift in sales: http://www.mazda.co.uk/canvas/coming.../gallery_1.jpg |
Somebody call Captain Fugly because we've found his missing car! :bellyroll:

Looks like a Mazda 3 and got beating with ugly stick

Looks are subjective, performance less so:
"106 horsepower seems a bit lackluster, but keep in mind that in hatch form, the car weighs 2270 lbs. The Skyactiv unit will almost certainly return outstanding fuel economy, and both gearboxes are among the best in the industry." http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/201...tyle-snatches/ In other parts of the world the 2 brings 114 HP @ 6000 RPM and 110 ft./lb TQ @ 4000 RPM. http://www.carbase.my/mazda/2-sedan/...1.5-sedan-2015 My guess is that the U.S. iA sedan will come in right at 2200 lbs. 0-60 should be right around 8 seconds, maybe slightly less due to the extremely low weight and 6MT. Nissan Versa - 0.044 hp per 1 lb | 109 HP | 107 lb.ft TQ | 2468 lbs Ford Fiesta - 0.047 hp per 1 lb | 120 HP | 112 lb.ft TQ | 2578 lbs Chevy Sonic - 0.051 hp per 1 lb | 138 HP | 135 lb.ft TQ | 2727 lbs Scion iA - 0.052 hp per 1 lb | 114 HP | 110 lb.ft TQ | 2200 lbs(est) Kia Rio - 0.054 hp per 1 lb | 138 HP | 123 lb.ft TQ | 2573 lbs Hyundai Accent - 0.055 hp per 1 lb | 137 HP | 123 lb.ft TQ | 2480 lbs 2016 Mazda Miata - 0.068 hp per 1 lb | 155 HP | 148 lb.ft TQ | 2275 lbs 2016 Scion FR-S - 0.073 hp per 1 lb | 200 HP | 150 lb.ft TQ | 2750 lbs At 2200 lbs with a good manual the car should be a lot of fun to toss around.
