SCCA pro solo what class
I am racing in the SCCA pro solo in May at MetLife stadium in jersey. I can't figure out what class I would be in and im having problems trying to find the class I need.
My mods are: 18x9 wheels Racing seat and harness Billet power blocks Intake Exhaust Coilovers Swaybars Upper rear control atm bushings Rear LCA Strut bars Short shifter Crank pulley Upgraded brakes front and rear EBC all around. Open flash tablet with stage one bpb tune. What class does that put me in? I would like to keep everything simple. |
I normally run STX I keep hearing I should be in DSP because of the blocks. And I'm making a front splitter for the car also.

I think the power blocks move you out of STX in CSP. How far is the front splitter going to extend?
|
2" from my front lip n 1.5" on each side of the bumper

Front splitter measures out to 68"x24"

What tires?

Nitto nto5 235/40/18

So then my frs is in street mod

Double check the street mod splitter allowances. IIRC I think it's only allowed to be wider than the bumper by a certain amount.

The front bumper is about 66" wide

OP, this splitter you're building throws you all the way to prepared (probably F Prepared, but I try to avoid looking at the prepared rules so I don't know). If you don't really care about being competitive and just wanna have fun, by all means build the car that YOU want to have and just run it in whatever class it falls in. Sans splitter you are in CSP. Running in STX with an illegal power mod is very likely to get you protested at a national event. |

I ran STX with an "illegal" mod (Greddy rear diff cover) and no one cared because I was more than 5 seconds off the podium pace. -alex |
I'm more of a competitive person. So I want to run legit. Just called the SCCA. With all of my upgrades im classed as street mod

If you're new to the sport I recommend an easier class to start with, so there's a smaller list of things you need to max out the rules, less knobs to turn, etc. while you learn the sport. Even if you know what you're doing, SM can be a money pit - there's no shortage of uncompetitive SM cars with money sunk into them well into the five figures. |

If your mod is something really obvious that adds 18HP, it's more likely to get protested even by the midpack guys. That's especially true at a pro solo since it's a season-long series and there's points at stake every event. If you showed up at a pro with a turbo and ran STX, you're getting protested if you finish anywhere besides last. At a local, most could care less unless they've got a stick up their ass. |
@renfield90 trust me I know, I have the Crawford blocks too and unless someone was looking specifically for it, they won't see it.
Hence my post about being competitive... Last few times no one cared my car was a non-STX entry (diff cover + Crawford blocks + STi gurney flap). -alex |
It's my first pro solo and I don't expect to win. But I plan on giving them hell. I have time to finish some upgrades

Nobody's trying to knock you here, but we do want you to set reasonable expectations for yourself. I've seen lots of people get frustrated and quit because they mod their car and are hopelessly in last place, and it sucks to watch that happen. |
A friend of mine is in sm but he is caged similar setup

I kno in probably out of my league but atleast I'm up to it

I say run Stx, I know many of the drivers who will be battling for trophies and no offense but you will not be anywhere near them. Go out and have fun.
|
I can't run stx because of the power blocks

I don't care if I place or not. I plan on giving everyone hell in my class. N I'm racing in CSP because of the blocks. My splitter is for the track

I know. I am guessing you are new to this correct? With your lack of experience and the fact that our stx group is stacked with talent it won't matter. Its just something I would do to at least hang out with cars at your level. SM you will be going against FTD type cars.

I took 5 years off from racing in general when I went into the military. Started back up in 2013 and trying to get back to where I was. I never have seen last place in stx and me going into CSP , I don't plan on coming in last. I kno I'm outclassed in SM so in order to stay with a competitive car I need to stay in CSP. At least till my other car is done.

Good luck with whatever you decide and See you there.

Thank you

I don't want to remove my power blocks on my car. I put them in and really don't want to take them out

Would they know if I was running billet power blocks?
