I recommend you read the rules, find a class that fits your budget, and build the car out for it. You're most of the way there for STX if you can remove your SM/SP items. If you want to stay in SM you're looking at forced induction and some really big Hoosier A6 tires (and whatever body work it takes to fit that), at a minimum. There's a guy on here with a SM FRS, he can tell you how far into it he is and how he does in the class.

If you're new to the sport I recommend an easier class to start with, so there's a smaller list of things you need to max out the rules, less knobs to turn, etc. while you learn the sport. Even if you know what you're doing, SM can be a money pit - there's no shortage of uncompetitive SM cars with money sunk into them well into the five figures.

It's a sliding scale. If you're DFL then nobody cares. If your mod is fairly minor, most people won't care unless you're near the pointy end of the field - a diff cover gives you what, reduced drag at non-solo speeds? Better cooling? Most won't care about that unless you're stealing contingency or a trophy from them.

If your mod is something really obvious that adds 18HP, it's more likely to get protested even by the midpack guys. That's especially true at a pro solo since it's a season-long series and there's points at stake every event. If you showed up at a pro with a turbo and ran STX, you're getting protested if you finish anywhere besides last.

At a local, most could care less unless they've got a stick up their ass.

@renfield90 trust me I know, I have the Crawford blocks too and unless someone was looking specifically for it, they won't see it.

Hence my post about being competitive... Last few times no one cared my car was a non-STX entry (diff cover + Crawford blocks + STi gurney flap).

It's my first pro solo and I don't expect to win. But I plan on giving them hell. I have time to finish some upgrades

SM doesn't have a treadwear limit, it's any DOT approved tire. You're up against the Hoosier A6 and A7 which is a very grippy tire...to the point of being at least 2 seconds faster than your tire (and that's just assuming the same size - everyone in SM is gonna have a lot more tire than 235mm). You're also way down on power to all the other SM cars.

Nobody's trying to knock you here, but we do want you to set reasonable expectations for yourself. I've seen lots of people get frustrated and quit because they mod their car and are hopelessly in last place, and it sucks to watch that happen.

I say run Stx, I know many of the drivers who will be battling for trophies and no offense but you will not be anywhere near them. Go out and have fun.

TRD_Demon527 03-18-2015 07:21 PM

I can't run stx because of the power blocks

I don't care if I place or not. I plan on giving everyone hell in my class. N I'm racing in CSP because of the blocks. My splitter is for the track

I know. I am guessing you are new to this correct? With your lack of experience and the fact that our stx group is stacked with talent it won't matter. Its just something I would do to at least hang out with cars at your level. SM you will be going against FTD type cars.
