My car just did the weirdest thing today...
So I was driving along the freeway...cruising at about 50mph...
Traffic appears out of nowhere and i had to brake hard. Stopped just in time...went from 50mph to 0 pretty quick. As I was braking...THE DOORS UNLOCKED THEMSELVES! AS IF THE CAR WAS TELLING ME TO JUST FORGET ABOUT THE BRAKES AND JUST GTFO OF THE CAR This car really has strange quirks...or maybe because it's just tax season and I haven't gotten a good night sleep in a while... |

I know another small sports car that has a "crash" mode.. where the doors automatically unlock after a crash. I wonder if something like that happened to the OP?
Here is how I know.. I was out on a club ride with a pack of front wheel drive cars.. and someone went off-roading... doing a complete front 1 1/2 somersault with the car, ending upside down. All 8 airbags deployed. Passengers completely unharmed. The doors were locked. Once the driver was able to swim through all the deflated white bags, I had to ask him to unlock the door so we could get them out. That was a fail for that car- in crash mode, the locks are supposed to open so rescue can get you out. I think the somersault is an unexpected crash method! A quick google search shows nothing for the twins.. but .. anyone know? |
I have never heard that in the twins, I would think you want the doors locked in a crash so unbelted passengers don't fly out the door??

If the doors become unlatched in a crash they would do so even if locked. The lock mech doesn't do anything different to the latch it just won't let it be opened without a key/fob. Locking your door will keep people out but does not make it any stronger. |

I highly doubt that they would design the safety systems of the car around the type of people who ignore the most obvious and crucial safety system in the car... the seatbelt. Plus, flying out of the door is probably less of a concern than flying through the windshield. If you get in a wreck while not wearing your seatbelt and your doors happen to fly off the hinges tossing you into the great abyss, you have no one else to blame but yourself for the ride you're about to take lol. (obviously not talking to you personally, just morons who feel they are invincible and don't need seatbelts) |

Why were the doors locked in the first place? As far as I know these cars (FRS BRZ) do not lock the doors automatically when you drive off. Honestly, I wouldn't want them to lock automatically.
