Occupant sensor

I've done some searching about this but haven't found a definitive answer.

I'm installing a pair of seats in my BRZ and want to retain the stock passenger occupancy sensor. I've disassembled the stock seat and removed the pad but I can't get it to trigger the airbag on in the new seat.

Has anyone done this successfully?

Or is there some kind of bypass type of switch that allows me to manually select on or off?

Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

my iphone seems to have magical powers to trigger the airbag sensor when i place it on the passenger seat. so annoying.

I'm starting to think that no one running aftermarket seats has a working passenger side airbag lol.

I read one guys writeup about folding it up and stuffing it under the seat, but that's not how these sensors work. If you fold it in on itself, it throws an airbag light.

Does ANYONE have a working passenger side airbag with aftermarket seats?

Mine would work but I ended up throwing it under the carpet. We did not have the time to take apart my new EVO seat to stick the new sensor in. Basically you just need to take the seat cover off the stock seat, pull the sensor pad and then put it in the new seat and plug it in to the harness. I will eventually have it moved into the new seat.

This is what you are looking for.

I removed that pad along with the module and have it installed in the seat. It does not switch to AIRBAG ON when someone sits in the seat. I tried putting the pad under the seat, which obviously doesn't work either, and rolling it up onto itself causes the airbag warning light to trigger.

Does your passenger airbag go to ON status?

I put it under the seat bottom foam in my recaro pole positions. Worked just fine.

Nice!

How did you remove it from the factory seat? Just pulled that grey foamy stuff off of the cushion?

Lifted the fabric and worked it out from under there. Some of that thin grey foam came with it so I guess that's what it's glued to

Mine constantly thinks someone is in the seat. So I had to have the seatbelt chime turned off via techstream.

Known issue. It's because it is NOT weight sensitive but uses a current flow to detect. Most likely it is not your iPhone but you are charging your iPhone and the connector is in the seat. Several threads on this on here.

I can make my Droid Maxx do it at will. Insert the charging plug, lay on seat, I have a phantom passenger. Unplug, no passenger. Plug back in, lay the phone so that the charging plug is lifted off the seat and on the bolster, no passenger.

Things that are wet, or liquid can also set it off. Its similar to a touchscreen or biometric reader that uses a very low current charge to make a connection.

Mine does work. Whilst I didn't do the install myself I had a chat with the guys that did, and that's how it goes.
