How Cats Work Part 1

Hi Guys,

We just started a series of technical articles that explain how catalytic converters are made, how they work, why people steal them, and why you should probably be running them on your FR-S or BRZ. This is just part one, we'll have part two up in a few weeks. Check it out and let us know what you think or if you have any questions.

Thanks!

@Magna_Flow maybe you can explain high flow cats. And if what I read is true about how high flow cats are not California legal, and how they are just 49 state legal and flow better because emissions regulations are relaxed outside of California.

Thanks! I like how you guys were not afraid to get deeper into the science of them. Looking forward to the next article.

Another good article would talk about the cost, complexity, and process of getting aftermarket catalysts exempted for use in California.

Wait....we can buy aftermarket catalytic converters? Which companies do this? I'm intrigued.

If it wasn't in the relatively immune tech section it would be by now!

High-flow cats may be legal if they come in the car, but that doesn't make it alright to replace the stock cat...

You're wrong. What if your cat gets stolen?
They are just not legal in California. I've seen "49 state legal" like here on the bottom left. http://www.magnaflow.com/02converters.asp
