Ghetto two-seater mod

I'll probably get flamed for this, oh well. :)
Maybe someone will have a better idea... I like small well handling two-seater cars. That's what I've driven most of my life. So when I got the FRS, the first thing I did is put the back seat down. I considered a seat delete kit. But they are expensive. Just leaving the seat down leaves a flat, carpeted surface. Perfect. The problem with having the seat down is anything in the trunk is visible. So I fabricated a simple panel to block the back like the seat does when it's up. I made a prototype out of cardboard, painted black. It works fine. The plan is to re-create it in plywood, covered in automotive carpet or something similar. Ideally it will be two pieces with a hinge. so I can swing it up from the bottom to get into the trunk from the car. |
Why not just fiberglass a piece?
That looks like shit. lmao |
Of course it looks like shit. It's a piece of cardboard.

Why bother? It's one thing to do a rear seat delete, but to just fold down the seats and fabricate a piece to make it look like a two seater? I don't get it. Is it THAT terrible to look at the tiny rear seats?
|
i dont think folding down the rear seat counts as "rear seat delete"...

Where does it say I want it to look like a two-seater? Seat deletes are smooth and uneven. A folded seat is flat and carpeted. Is it THAT terrible that I'm willing to spend a couple dollars? Yes it is. |

:( Christ. I'm an idiot. I guess I'm more tired than I thought.
 |

Better to just get rid of the seat all together if you want to have a "2 seater"... #BecauseWeightReduction

I think the point is that he want's a flat carpeted "shelf" in the back instead of a bumpy seat or uneven sheet metal seat pan. When the seat is folded down it gives him that, but then all his trunk stuff is visible.

Maybe if it wasn't cardboard or plywood. I agree with Fiberglass

Not really a new idea. A couple of us from New England have made them. I removed mine as it was more of a concept using body filler to get rounded edges. I'm going to make a nice one out of plywood using proper fillers and have it clad in leather and alcantara with red stitching. It probably won't be much lighter but will give it a two seater look.

Why buy a 30K new car to stick cardboard into it...truly, we are now a honduh community
