Can 170mm parking brake shoes be retrofitted on a FR-S?
The reason I ask is because I got almost every thing needed to fit EVO X brembos, but the rear brake rotors are 170mm parking brake instead of 190mm as our cars.

Why would you want to downgrade?

Are you suggesting the EvoX brembos are a downgrade, or asking why he would want to downsize the parking brake shoes?

Parking brake shoe size is really not important if you only use the parking brake as a parking brake.

Back on topic, I would imagine you would need a lot more than just the shoes to make it work, the entire e-brake assembly will be too big.

If you're just using the parking brake as a parking brake, I don't see why you would change it out for Evo X Brembos

The parking brake is an internal expanding drum which works inside the rotor hat. I assume part of the Evo swap includes the Evo rotor, which apparently used a smaller diameter hat.

The parking brake is integral with the main rotor, so if you want to run the EvoX rear rotors you need a parking brake assembly that fits inside the drum of that rotor.

Which means the '04 STi rotor should suffice, right? Its parking brake is 190mm, and it's only 2mm wider than our rear rotors. All that should be needed is a bracket to push the OEM caliper out to match the rotor. Unless I'm wrong.

I meant as far as the size goes. If doing any sort of e-brake happy activity, why go smaller?

Because someone upgrading the main rotor is probably more concerned about braking performance with the pedal than with the e-brake.

If you're concerned about consistent e-brake performance, the only worthwhile solution is not using the drum at all.

The rear rotors are slightly confusing. Assuming the bracket adapter kit for the Evo X rear calipers place the caliper in the same place the STI brembo caliper would be, you actually need an 08+ STI rear rotor, drilled to 5x100. 08+ STI rear rotors had a different backspacing compared to the older models and are the only ones compatible with the existing parking brake mechanism. I'm running this exact setup, using DBA dual drilled rotors. As far as retrofitting 170mm brake shoes, I don't know anything about that specifically.

I bought a set of Evo X brakes that came out of a Subaru. The kit included all 4 brake rotors (STI) but the rear are 170mm. It is just cheaper to downgrade the ebrake than buying new 190mm rotors. I only use the parking brake as parking brake. ;-)

170mm shoes may be cheaper but retrofitting the ebrake assembly may not be. It's not something many people if any would do, so unfortunately you might not be able to find much information on it.

I highly doubt the full e-brake assembly on both hubs is going to cost less than new rotors, not by a long shot.
