Bought my 86 pre owned and.....

What is the easiest way to check if the stock exhaust or muffler has been changed or tampered with?

Thanks in advance

Post up a photo of the tips and just underneath the rear diffuser and we can help you determine if it's aftermarket.

Check bolt heads for marks, does the wear and weathering on the exhaust match the rest of the undercarriage and are all the black rubber hangers nice and shiny and new looking. Other then these circumstantial signs I can't think of any other way.

Pics and you shall get help! It's hard to help with just reading text.

Take photos of all the piping and I'm sure a member on here can post pics of their stock piping and you can compare.

If the bolts are rusted to sh*t, its stock and likely never swapped ;)
really, they are bad.

If you have a 2013 FRS and the exhaust tips look like this ..... it most likely would have the stock muffler. If it has the stock muffler, there is a good chance, the rest of the exhaust system is stock.

Should be pretty obvious. Aftermarket stuff has a minimalist look to it while the factory stuff has the look of mass-produced and stamped parts.

Good chance any aftermarket stuff is going to have a makers Logo somewhere.

If u can rev ur car to 7k and barely hear it, it's stock. Lol

Can you describe the tone of the exhaust?

The stock exhaust growls, with a hint of chocolate and oak, followed by a cherry aftertaste.

And the TRD exhaust since it was available from the dealer and some call it "stock".

Are you wondering if the exhaust currently on the car is stock or if the previous owner might have removed the stock exhaust and put it back on before selling? There's a pretty good chance the previous owner removed any aftermarket parts before selling. Who knows what was on the car before you bought it. This is why inspections are important.
