Tattoo help!
Hey everyone so I'm in the process of getting a tattoo started here. Had my first session a couple weeks ago then I have my next on the 18th of this month.
Kind of having trouble thinking of some parts to fill this guy in with. The plan right now is to do the full sleeve basically up to the wrist. I know that's what I want (about 3 years of thinking of things) and so that's what I'm going to have done! The "theme" is kind of mechanical/car parts (not just car stuff) because to put it simply mechanical devices and cars/motorcycles are a big part of my life. We'll just keep it at that. We started with coilovers, a brake rotor/caliper, piston set and gears etc. Not going for super accurate as I don't believe that would be very exciting. The forearm is going to have a lot of gears and tubes, wires some suspension links etc going on but we haven't quite figured out any great ideas of the back of my forearm and the underside of my arm. Looking for some ideas for bigger "front pieces" to basically become more of the foreground of the piece some current ideas include: transmission gearing, conical bearing, chain, lightbulb, drill/drill bit If anyone has any helpful comments I would really appreciate it! feel free to throw out suggestions/photos etc. Here's a couple pictures of the very start, just under 4 hours of work. It will all get filled in eventually looks kind of odd at the moment but that's how it goes. Flat Four?
https://scontent-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/hp...93&oe=55914793 Or maybe a LSD? http://mkiv.supras.org.nz/images/articles/torsen2.gif ...Diggin it btw! :w00t: |
You know I actually went to the artist originally with a flat four engine but we decided that for the piece itself an inline crank setup looks better ha. Not exactly more of a fan of the inline but hey its "art" right?
I like the LSD idea I'll send some photos over see what she thinks there too |
Is it going to have any biomechanical aspect or is it primarily laid out parts?

Only the old guys will know!

lol awesome haha
I didn't want to go biomechanical. I like and can appreciate those tattoos but personally I didn't want something like that on my body. It'll be a handful of mechanical pieces that the artist will eventually make them be all connected (somehow!) and the background will be filled in with plates, tubes, wires gears etc just background |

Seriously, don't get stuff just to get stuff. Some of the teeth on the gears look crooked. They all look unfinished, I hope it looks better when it is finished. |

I understand where you are you coming from. It may kind of look that way that I'm just throwing things at my arm but I've had this idea in my head for a long time of a mechanical piece I've just been having a hard time visualizing what it would all consist of. My artistic/creative abilities are pretty terrible which is why I'm asking for ideas. The tattoo artist so far has been very good at taking objects I send her away and transforming them. The style she is going for seems to mesh well with the idea i've had in my head. If I didn't like it, I wouldn't do it. Well it is unfinished, very much so. She just did some outline and basic shading for my first session. I don't mind if things are crooked. That's something I didn't want either was it to be hyper-realistic because I don't find that as visually exciting or enjoyable when it comes to tattoos. Additionally, as soon as I move my arm everything is going to look crooked that's just how it goes. Stay tuned I go back wednesday very excited to continue with the piece! It's going to take some time before we get a good picture of how it all blends together but I'm very hopeful |
