This just hit me.

we know a EJ swap is possible.

but what about a engine from a GT3 RS 4.0

I think I'd wet my pants...

yuli8466 06-11-2012 09:29 AM

please post a url for the GT3 RS 4.0 swaping....

That's awesome indeed.

i can not image even.

The GT3 RS 4.0 is for RR layout.

Cheddar 06-11-2012 11:21 AM

i'm sure someone can turn it around for a RWD setup.

and I don't have a link. just a crazy idea I had for a NA flat 6 making 500hp

That engine costs more than our cars.

This.

Hell, it costs more than a complete STI parts car for a EJ25 swap....

I think the better swap for an NA monster would be an LSX motor

This. And I'm sure someone will do it soon.

with money anything is possible

Honestly, the best bang-for-the-buck swap (if you want a bigger NA motor) is the 2GRFSE out of the IS350.

The engines are becoming cheaper/more common, the wiring will be pretty straightforward, and they make great power when attached to a manual gearbox.

We did some preliminary measurements, and the 2GR is going to require a new hood with improved clearance and is not compatible with the FRS bellhousing (which is integral with the front tranny case. That means adapter plate and new shift linkage

Extra weight further forward and higher up may very well = fail on an FR-S. To keep the handling characteristics that make this car so great, I'm thinking Turbo, SC or wait for NA parts development and tuning for the FA20.

Ouch! That sucks. I figured if it (2GRFE version) fit in my Spyder.....

I guess they really did lower the hood height, and all that jazz, like they said in the production videos :happy0180:

I also heard a rumor that the bellhousing was the same... guess not.

Yeah, honestly I don't want to swap. They spent a lot of time designing this platform and I only want to enhance it, not change it.

My plan is

1) NA tuning, see what I can get out of it
1a) I/E + tune
1b) *optional* PnP + cams + more revs (if proven to give good results)

2) If #1 is not enough, I will add a Rotrex-based kit.

For those who want to swap, LSx swap might still fit since those OHV engines are so compact. :burnrubber:

I know everyone will do the "trendy" swaps but I was thinking completely unique and different.

But I don't think anyone who could afford the engine would drive a FRS lol

eindio 06-11-2012 09:02 PM

My other car is an 01 z28 with ls1. I bought this thinking about swapping engines, but upon diving it trough some twisties I can't do anything to throw the balance off. The ls1 would make this an awesome drag car but I love the way it drives to much to throw the balance off maybe a s54 m3 engine after warranty would be worth the extra money
