Series 10 and TRD 1.0 owners: Question on your headlights?

*edit: Monogram owners too

So apparently I'm mindblown right now to find out that the LED HID headlights operate differently from the JDM/Euro model headlights?

Correct me if I'm wrong.

This is USDM

DRL = LED at its brightest
Parking lamps = LED at its brightest
Headlights = LED OFF, Headlights on with operational High beams

So apparently the USDM model doesn't have a dimming option for the LEDs? It's always at it's brighest, and its off when you turn on the headlights?

This is JDM and Euro?

DRL = LED at its brightest
Parking lamps = LED is dimmed
Headlights = LED is dimmed with Headlights on with operational High beams

right?

The LED's will only come on when the DRL's are needed, and will go off when the projector turns on. The BCM is wired and programmed to only ground one at a time. Also the LED's will turn off when the ebrake is pulled, so for someone like me who has command start installed in my monogram, I need to keep it in neutral so the DRL's will always be off when I get out of the car.

I see! Thank you! One more question, does the LED dim between parking lamps and DRL?

No there is only 1 level of brightness for the LED's, either on or off. I've modded mine so i can have both on at the same time but took some wiring and a switch.

At least as far as I've been able to tell... I've only ever seen my LED's on at one brightness.

I have no idea why the thread is gone, but take a look at the cached version:

You can pm @projek_01 to see if he still makes them for sale, or you can make one yourself:

Just increase/decrease the resistance (ohms) to get your desired brightness.

I've emailed @Diode Dynamics about this and their customer service mentioned that it should be very easy to make a plug and play kit because they have all the connectors for it already, sometime in the future they would try to make a prototype. I haven't heard from them in awhile though. I suspect they're very busy right now trying to get all the orders filled with the BRZ DRL module that was just released.

The way the DRL's work is like this. The BCM (under the dash near the fuse box) acts as a ground for the DRL's. So when the either headlight switch or light sensor determines the LED's need to be on it activates them by grounding the pin. Basically the BCM works as a switched ground because the DRL's themselves have constant power from the battery, fuse and a relay. I agree it wouldn't be too hard to make a plug and play harness but it's almost easier just to splice into the Orange DRL wire and make a switched ground and bypass the BCM entirely.

I PM'd them last week, they're expecting the kit to be available 2nd week of march.

As for physical differences, I've heard the JDM ones point a little differently because they're right hand drive. Just a little note for future research. (The whole housing)

One last question, so I just got the USDM headlights installed on my FRS, and I noticed that when I high beam, it seems like only the LED goes on? Is that correct? The projector doesn't seem to beam higher or anything.

Can a Monogram/10/1.0 confirm this?

That sounds like you're activating the parking lights...how are you activating your high beams?

When the high beams are on it should ONLY be the projector on, LED's off

I have a feeling the standard FRS and monogram / 10 / rs1 are wired differently. Like a few others said, the projector should actually just flip up during high beams. The LED strip stays off.

What I think is happening is the stock FRS has the DRL at low power during driving, off with head lights, full power DRL bulb for high beams. It seems like when you flip your high beams, it's doing the same thing where full power is going to your DRLs which is just the LED strip in this case
