Can the multi-display be expanded?

Convincing the display to give live oil temperature readings would probably involve some sort of programming or rewiring.

The display currently can show the odometers, temperature, average or instantaneous mileage. It is also aware of your gear position, rpm, and possibly more.

I don't know why Subaru hasn't included oil temperature, but I feel they should have.

I've lurked the interweb for months and found only tablet/app solutions. Does anyone share my interest in this? Has anyone had better luck finding information?

if you replace the stereo with a ca-fi type of android unit, you can run torque on it.

In theory yes, in practice, very difficult. I think that it's possible with a canbus ardino. I have seen kickstarters for them but nothing particular for the frs.

Arduino?

I've looked at that as well. It's definitely ahead of mounting an OFT to the dash.

Its a microcontroller and development environment that is somewhat easier to use than more traditional microcontroller rigs. A lot of DIY stuff is made that uses it.

I looked into it. Getting the oil temp is easy. Controlling that display is hard(er). It is possible though. The ecutek guys have got it showing AFRs.

I got frustrated about this and built the thing in my signature (it is open source, etc. So, in theory you could build your own). I'm also going to be doing something else for the oil temp reading that I'll post about once it's done.

The project that I was referring to having seen:https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...cking-platform

I've worked with arduino in the past! I will look into that can bus triple.

Thank you everyone!

I think at this time it's still in its infancy. But there's potential there I think

Subota should just release an update.

My display shows Rev 00.

Someone needs to know how to program with Python for Arduino if I remember correctly. So, in theory a device that can take the data from the ECU and display it via the info display on the dash. Might just be easier to replace the display with something that can be drawn from an Android app. That would be one tiny LCD or OLED panel.People in the electronics field could do it but cost wise much better to not reinvent the info display interface. That likely involves chip architecture, ASIC stuff, etc.

. I have a Proclip mounted 7" Android tablet on my dash that works just fine. Most engineers prefer to work for $ and I doubt there is much to be gained financially from all this. If Subaru decided to enhance their info display it would make a lot more sense.

The WRX has a pretty extensive multi info display.

Programming the arduino is most similar to Java.

I built an Arduino datalogger for my vintage racecar.
It logs AFR, EGTs, CHTs, oil press, oil temp, fuel press, throttle position, Tach, and some spares.
It logs locally to a mem stick, and controls the shift light and the Dash Warning light.
It also sends the data over USB to a droid phone that I use as a data display for realtime data, and a graphing feature.
It saves the data to a logfile as well.

That system (with a CAN shield) would do exactly what you are talking about (and then some).
