Dedicated Track/Race Suspension

Hi, beginning a new endeavor and will be building a dedicated FRS track car with the goal to eventually race it and full cage, FI, Fire supression.

Weight goal is 23-2400lbs
Power ~350-400HP on E85 (although initially staying NA)
Trying to stay street legal for small test drives.

The car will not be used for any normal driving and will be stripped.

Does anyone have recommendations for suspension components. I like to buy right once, and am thinking of a 5k suspension budget.

Is this the right place to get started this journey? Thoughts one the budget ? I am ok with used part and going to stroll the forum.

I am an advanced HPDE driver (13 Brz) but have not raced.

Thanks

Get the car first.

What class/series do you plan to race in?

How much experience do you have adjusting suspension? If you do not have the know-how, are you willing to hire someone to adjust it for you?

What kind of tires will you be running?

5k buget for race suspension? If your super serious about it then id say double that buget.

What type of racing are you eventually planning on? Any specific series? Does your $5k budget include all your planned suspension parts (bushings, camber plates, control arms) or just coilovers?

Car is being shipped. 2013 FRS

Mike, I do not have any experience but hoping that as I learn I will be able to take on more and more myself. Bit for right now I am fine with paying to get it done right.

I was hoping I would get a decent setup, but sounds like I need to plan on much more. most of what I see are street and mixed use setups.

Normally, I when I do things on the cheap I end up unhappy and end up replacing items anyway. On a scale of 1 to 5. I would look at buying items that are a 4. so good, but not pro quality

Tires would be slicks (Hoosier A6?)

cdrazic93 03-03-2015 10:51 PM

Oooookay so now that we know what your scale of quality parts are, I would reccomend MCS 2-ways or AST 3-ways. JRZ RS are the most expensive of that group that I would reccomend. The rest of that doubled buget goes for LCA's bushings, I would consider a diff and anything else RCE and CSG reccomend.

Maybe you should answer all the questions that were asked so we could help you out.
So far we have
1. hoosier a6
2. 2013 frs being shipped
3. big goals, full track car eventually.

1. what kind of racing? specific series?
2. do you know how to properly adjust 2way/3way shocks? do you know suspension setups? alignments?
3. 5k budget includes? brakes? coilovers? alignments? wheels? arms? bushings? cage? etc? please be specific to what you mean by "suspension"

Those are certainly serious (pro quality) tires.

What tracks will you be running, and do you have a preference on car balance? Can you link me to previous cars you've built/driven, and your feedback on their handling characteristics, so that I can get a better idea of your particular style?

Iwannajag 03-04-2015 07:47 AM

I am looking to race in the NASA PT class.
My definition of suspension is coilovers, springs, control arms, camber plates and bushing. Not include any brake system components.

I do not have any alignment and suspension experience nor do I have experience building a race car. So I will be seeking professional help and start learning from there.

I live in the Chicago area and will be most doing the tracks within a few hundred miles (Blackhawk, RA, Milwaukee Mile, Autobahn, Gingerman)

I will continue to do HDPE to get seat time and get familiar with the car.
