Autocross Extravaganza

So probably should be in member journals but I'm too pumped and want everyone to see.

So i'll start this off by lowering your expectations right off. This is the first time I've ever done any autocrossing. This is my first RWD car. I've had the car for about 3 weeks now. The event was at Bremerton Motorsports Park and hosted by Bremerton Sports Car Club.

It was awesome!!! I can't wait for the next event. I had a friend there to walk me through the basics of how the event works and give me tips when we walked the track. Then the main event:

Run 1 1:03 - Had an instructor / experienced driver ride with me and basically just give me direction if I started to get off track.

Run 2 0:57 - Same instructor, except this time included some when to gas more and when to brake instruction

Run 2.5 - Rode with an experienced rider in his GT500 equipped with hoosiers. That was incredible. He was easy top 4 or 5 drivers of the day and that car made my stomach want to leave my body when he slammed the brakes.

Run 3 0:56 - Dad rode with me. Nothing crazy but started really seeing where the limits of the car was.

Run 4 0:55:34 - Final and best run of the day. Really got an idea of where the limits are.

So I've decided that other than gaining experience, which obviously is the most important, tires are where I'm limited. I honestly thought my power was great, I just couldn't get the front end to turn in on some of the big u turns. The slalom was a blast and the car just want to keep going faster. The car made me look good. I got lots of congratulations for the car and even more when everyone saw I had a decent time for a beginner.

I would say the car definitely gave me a fighting chance at some good numbers. Below are the videos in order of runs. As you can see run 1 to run 4 I gained some confidence.

dwcnmv - you smoked everyone in the novice division! You beat a Mazda Miata,350z, Mini Cooper S, S2000, G35, and my BRZ!

Sadly, I was the slowest of the group but that was my fault and not the car :)

No worries. When I saw you going around it looked like you were a little nervous of hurting your baby. My tires and brakes didn't have a lot of fun that day. I have a feeling there will be some more autocrossing in my future. I also couldn't let my friends Jetta beat me, no matter what. :P

Yeah it seems I need to get a little ruff with the BRZ ;p
