To remove, or not to remove. Plastic protection strip on bottom corner of door sill
My fr-s came with this from the factory it seems. It doesn't seem to remove cleanly; it's really on there quite strong. Anyone remove theirs? I would leave it on but it's starting to yellow.

I believe that is supposed to remain on the car.
|
Leave it on those are put on areas like that for extra protection
|
I would not remove it. It believe it is supposed to to be there. Those clear pads are designed to protect the area where they are applied. From time to time there appear to be bodywork areas that are susceptable to abrasion from environmental factors. I have seen them on Sienna vans as well as other vehicles. I have never seen one yellow. In fact whatever that material is would be great for clear front masking as it seems very resilient.
|
Leave it on. Rub it with White Vinegar to reverse yellowing.
|
Mine is clearly visible from miles away because I cant the wax/sealant residue from underneath the edges. It really is quite annoying, I wish I could remove it.
|
That section of the body probably protrudes a bit past the front bumper when looking at the car frontally. So that edge is prone to getting knicked by rocks/debris. The G35 was worse - its rear fenders flared out like a widebody so the front sections of the rear fenders had a large patch of clear vinyl from the OEM.

Anyone with a BRZ have these strips?

I have removed them by heating them up a little with a hair dryer and removing the glue residue with Goo Gone.
I'll let you know if the car starts falling apart because they're missing. :bonk: |

ROTFLMAO!

Toyota put these plastic protectors on the door sills to protect the paint from people entering the rear seats so their shoes doesn't scratch the paint and for no other reason.
I removed them from my whiteout and will be removing them from my 10 Series soon as no one rides in my back seats. All that is needed to remove them is a little time and patience. They will pull off without a heat gun and you just need to use some cleaner wax to remove the residue. |
Here you go now remove that ugly crap..!! :happy0180:

Interesting? I wonder how that explains the use of these stickers by Toyota in places where no back seat passenger can, could or even would come close to touching the paint!

Paint protection..but its his car..some people removed the Scion one by the trunk also...They dont bother me so i left em all on
|
You can either use the vinegar method, or just regular cleaning wax. Make sure you use a microfiber cloth if waxing so it won't dry on the edges of the strip.

I took mine off on my passenger side. Now I regret taking it off. Anyone know what and where I can get film like that to put it back on?
|
took mine off the first week I had the car. Week or two later.... huge rock chip right where one of the stickers would have been....

Arise ye dead thread.
Because the body shop bubbled it, peeled it off, and complained that no dealer had it in stock, I consulted my trusty 382 page parts list manual, went online and started looking at vendors. Here are the part #'s in case anyone is curious: SU00303130 Passenger side SU00303131 Driver side It's about 20 bucks each. lol holy shit. |

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Scion-TOYOTA...ZV6OzO&vxp=mtr Almost $21.59 each on ebay not including shipping yikes! Guess it must be reiterated it's not worth removing it unless some body shop has to as was your case |
Theres one of those on my hood just a quarter way up. I'm gona leave it because it will keep the hood from getting chipped up. Wife wanted to do it to her Kida but its pretty pricey. They wanted 500$ for it

I spend a pile of time on the highway though and seem to get hit by the most random pieces of flying debris so am probably the exception not the rule when it comes to the film. |
I'm mostly on freeway too. If its been on there thru the cars 43k miles it still looks good so I'll leave it. If the car has a good paint job its not really an issue. My GT onlt had few tiny chips in 14 years 139k

If the previous owner was mostly city the it will still look great but much time spent on the highway or back roads means it will take a beating. Oh, and I do almost 50K a year so again am the exception. |
Took mine off 2 years ago. It still looks great. Zero problems here.

Leave it or replace it with a new strip unless you like dealing with chips and rust spots.

I get new every 5 years so still have almost 4 more to go. It is a hoot to see the salesman's face when we are talking trade in and they ask my mileage. |
