Navigational rally on Long Island 06/23/12

I'm dropping this off here because these rallies are a really fun event. Bring a friend or bring your special other, it can be a great way to involve that special someone who isn't completely into cars. You're given a set of directions to follow a route, with the goal being to finish the rally with the correct mileage and average speed (time.) However, along the way are also special signs or scavenger hunt type items and each one is worth point, though they are all not easy to spot. Here's the link for detail and the rally "flyer" as an image. https://www.facebook.com/events/156542147804269/

They are going to give forum members discounted pricing of $25 to pre-register $30 day of.

You are paying to run the rally. The organizers spend time setting up the rout, picking out the prizes etc., so they charge a couple of bucks to participate.

Considering a sanctioned event like autox in nassau coliseum is $45, charging people to meet up on public roads sounds just like a way to make a quick buck.

Then don't come. There are plenty of these events many put on by clubs such as the Westchester Sports Car Club (http://www.wscc.org/rallies.htm). They have their fans and I'm sure they have their detractors. This is pretty average(ly) priced, but clearly not for you. However, there is no need to belittle it, or call it a rip-off if you have never been to one and don't have all the info.

Reminds me of the Top Gear episode that a very similar rally on an island off of Spain with co-drivers randomly picked for them by the producers. Seems like a great idea and a lot of fun. Best of luck with it!

In case anybody feels like this is a scam or a guy trying to make a quick buck, we do have the support of some local car clubs, for example: http://www.southsideboysofli.com/loc...owschedule.htm
