Emissions testing in GA
For those that live in Georgia and may not be 100% emissions compliant (deleted cats, etc)...how do you go about getting an emissions testing every year?
|
It varies from county to county. Some require it and some dont. In my county they give you 2 years without requiring an emissions test on a new car, so if you have a 2014 you are good til 2017.
If its something as simple as a cat delete, just put your stock cat in before you go get your emissions done, then swap it back out once you pass. |
At least we don't have it as bad as our brothers/sisters in cali

Most of the state doesn't require emissions testing. It may be the only benefit to living in the Augusta area.

I'm wondering if I can just get a PO box in Augusta and not worry about it. One of my friends said that as long as the car isn't throwing any CEL codes they won't pick up on any mods

You have to register your car where you take your homestead exemption. You have to have no fault codes stored and the readiness tests have to be passed (I think they may allow 2 readiness tests not set). I looked into this when I was thinking of building a kit car, as GA has no exemptions for kit cars. They do look under the car for the catalysts, at least at the stations I've been to. I would say just put the cat on for the test.
