GT Wing/Aero Questions
 

I'm honestly new to all of this, so I would really appreciate if you guys can chime in with whatever info or tips you guys have for me.
I do some spirited driving (yet to do anything crazy) through some canyons and understand that a proper wing would add a good amount of downforce, increasing handling to some degree in corners.
Would these differences from the wing only show at really high speeds like above 70? In the course of canyon driving, I probably go an average of 30-45, slow I know lol.
TBH, I love the look of a giant wing, as rice as that sounds, but am debating to invest in one if the function doesn't suit me as much. I don't know if I'll ever track my car.

Would wings like Voltex show more functionality compared to a 400$ GT wing? I know there's a huge difference in price, but would the downforce still show on the cheaper wing?

From my experience gt wings needs to work with other aeros for noticible difference . At high speeds , you wont feel a thing at around 50 mph . Its a exponential function so the faster you go the effect multiplys. If u like the look i d say go for it . Its ur car and at the end of the day if it makes u happy its worth it. Keep an open mind and keep modding!

At the speeds you're talking about, it won't do anything.

If you like the look, then by all means go for it. Just be prepared to wake up one morning and look out the window and realize you've ruined your car. Be ready to buy a factory replacement trunk lid in a few years, because unless you turn your car into forced induction track monster, you will invariably get tired of the look, or at least get tired of other motorists pointing and laughing. I often entertain the idea of a Voltex GT wing. I grew up watching touge/Tsukuba track battles and Initial D where it seems to be a huge advantage. However. I reserve the GT wing for track cars only. That way law enforcement and the trolls won't target you. Just my personal opinion.

If you are looking for aerodynamic gains and regularly drive your car on the street, check out the FT86 Speedfactory front splitter and the driveway labs rear diffuser.

As for your question about Voltex vs other brand, if you want "the look" then buy a cheap one. If you want the performance then do some research on what the big track guys/companies use, but it won't be cheap.

As for going for it because I want it for looks, I think the biggest worry is installation/where it gets put on the trunk. If it wasn't close enough to the edge/ 2 inches in from the edge, wouldn't that weight at actual high speeds warp the trunk? Or are CF wings light enough and the trunk strong enough to handle it?

I'll look into the splitters!

You can get a wing that will work at low speeds, you just have to get a wing designed for it. Lots of FSAE teams are running aero cars now, and they typically don't see speeds over 60mph. BUT, the wing will be larger, to get the gains at the lower speeds.

Aero is a trick bit though, you add a wing, and your Cp (center of pressure) is going to move aft, changing the balance of the car, and a wing will have a drag penalty. Front splitter and rear diffuser will have less drag penalty, and may even lower the drag, while adding downforce.

They are more efficient. You need to select a wing based on your application.
