quiet 3" exhaust
any out there?
looking for the quietest 3" headerback system. |
3" and quiet don't always go hand in hand. To my knowledge, there isn't a one stop shop header back, you'll have to buy them in pieces.
Perrin makes a 3" resonated cat-back, and Nameless has a 3" pipe that replaces the front and over pipes. When configuring the Nameless pipe, add the cat and resonator to keep it all quiet. Combine those and you'll have a full 3" exhaust. All that aside, why do you need a 3" exhaust? Unless you're going for big forced induction power, you don't really need it. |
JDL's 3" full exhaust with ultra quiet front pipe is one of the quietest ones I have seen.

2.5" headerback on my asphalt.. is alright on this rig but these FA20's don't sound too great to begin with (and neither did the EJs until people added some nice catbacks+ to 'em). Of course everyone is different, and some prefer the sonic profiles of 2.5"- setups just food for thought.. on N/A some argue 3" may be adverse to powerband, but doubtful the loss/change is significant to warrant going 2.5" then 3" later, if higher HP FI is in one's future |
Retaining both cats will help the most in keeping noise down. "Suitcase" style mufflers (eg Perrin) are typically quieter than cannon style exhausts (eg Tomei Type80).
Though to be honest, if noise is a concern, I wouldn't suggest a 3" exhaust. |
From the research that I have done (most of what you want can be found by searching..) Perrin and JDL will result in quietest setup (keeping resonated and catted). After those 2 I would consider Nameless.

 that being said I want your jdl, SS |
Reasoned I mentioned it is because I had one of the first Nameless 3" full exhaust systems. Raspy nightmare, even with the resonated catted FP. Waited several months for them to finally make it and put it into production and I added the JDL UEL to it and oh my god..... I thought I was driving a Civic like a 16 year old with a fartcan.
Like what was mentioned above, avoid any canister style muffler, and go with the crossflow style like Perrin has, or JDL uses a Magaflow muffler in their setup. You will want it. |
got nameless header+2.5 op/fp, and FI.. tuner said needs to keep all 3" exhaust from header back.. since I'm stock after the op/fp..
considering the xforce 3" headerback.. but I have not seen much information about this.. |

sell the OP/FP and get a custom 3" headerback. Put a helmholtz in and choose a magnaflow muffler appropriate for the job and go at it. should cost the same or less than a pieced together solution and it'll be fit to your vehicle. |
how about MXP 3" catback?
|
Good to know! Thanks for the heads up.

Perhaps the better question for the Op may be: Which companies make a nice, or the best, 3" catback exhaust utilizing Crossflow Style Mufflers (for reduced sound output). |
