Willow Springs Track Day Pictures & Review

A few pic are up from my track day today. It's in my album

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/album.php?albumid=168

for some reason using the picture links from the album wasn't working, but check the album out, it was an amazing time at Willow Springs today!

I'll be adding something a little more in depth later, i'm pretty exhausted right now. I'll see if i can figure out the picture thing too and add more of them. These are all i had the patience to post lol.

Needless to say everything they say about this car is true. The good and bad, and it further cements the fact that this was the perfect DD/Track Car for me!

Stay tuned for more.

Alright so I've never taken a car out to the track before this was my first time. I was pretty much just learning as I went along with a couple of friends instructing me. Needless to say I wasn't pushing it to its limits or anything.

First off let's get what everyone else has said out of the way. Yes the car handles great, yes it could definitely use better wheels, and yes it's definitely under powered especially when running in groups of cars that have 250-1000 hp. With all of that in mind I have to say for someone starting out I think this is the perfect car. Not too much power, but great on the corners. I just feel like if I had had too much power in this situation I probably would have done more harm than good.

Ok so first few laps around, I'll admit I was a total bitch haha, it took some time for me to learn the line around the track, and turn 3 was totally kicking my ass. But I was running with a good group of folks, I mean I was in the beginners group. I had to let a lot of people pass me in the straights. By the second time I was up I definitely was getting the hang of it. I let both the guys instructing me take her out on the track too, just to see how it's done.

Now one of my buddy's took me out in the intermediate group, he didn't totally beat on her, but he helped show me the limits which i can push my car. Tremendously helpful. The best part was that even though on the straights we were getting passed up by these beastly super cars. By the time we took al, the corners and were taking the next straight, we were passing them by. Granted it depends on the drivers, and I'm not nearly skilled enough to do it like that yet. It was great fun seeing it done especially riding shot gun.

After that ride along I definitely got more confident, and started pushing her more. We were breaking 100-105 in the front straight. Again nothing amazing considering I knew people making 145ish, but I loved it! Just fast enough to be exciting but not scary fast. I don't want to sound like a bitch but ya know first time, and in a new car, last thing you want to feel is uncomfortable at high speeds. But I was definitely happy to break 100 the first time.

I wish I would have mounted the GOPRO but I actually was too busy to even thing about that. I had the camera it was just sitting around, maybe I'll use it later since I borrowed it from a friend.

Overall great track experience, can't wait to go again.

Oh and there was another FRS There too. It was Ultramarine, I spoke with one of the guys that came with it, they were from AE Performance in Valencia I believe, I have a card somewhere, but big shutout to those guys, they were running that car in every group, and it was awesome to see them go! Not sure if it was just one guy or multiple guys taking her out but if you guys are on the boards but you looked great out there!

^I don't know who TDO was for your day out, but picking a trackday with qualified instructors will really step-up your learning curve :-)
I am sure your mates know what they are doing and can give you pointers, but taking an HPDE day with some sort of school associated with it can make all the difference in the world.

They actually did an amazing job at instructing. It was a slow start but once i got the Line i was really able to have fun with it.

Hey dude, great meeting you at the track. I got some pics and video of your car i'll be posting them in a separate thread later. I think we also got some of your lap times as well.

Awesome! Nice meeting you out there too, it was a great day. How did your car do in comparison to other times you've been there?

What times did you guys put down? My Hyundai Genesis 2.0t when it was stock was running around Big Willow in the high 1:47's and now with upgrades it's in the low 1:41's. I'm still debating if I want to trade it in for an FR-S.

we did a 1:39 with Hankook RS3 tires.
