Track Day Season...Just Around the Corner!

I know a lot of you that have participated in the past will have received the email notifications from the organizers, but for those who missed them we have 2 track days coming up in just over a month. The Alfa Club of Oregon is doing their spring HPDE March 28 at PIR. If your looking for a bit more of challenge, hook up with Team Continental for their HPDE and Drivers Training day at ORP March 29. TC will be running ORP counter clockwise for this event. You can sign up at http://www.motorsportreg.com/ .

For the Alfa club day, signing up before February 28th will reduce the price to $150.

I'm really hoping to get out to a few events this year. Any tips from those of you that go on a regular basis what gear is needed and what I need to do to participate?

You'll need at the very least, a Snell M2010 rated helmet. These can be had for right around $100. Depending on organization, you may also need to wear gloves.

As far as what you need to do to participate, you just have to sign up (usually on motorsportreg.com). Depending on organization there may be a classroom component or they may give you an instructor to ride along throughout the day (or both). Regarding car preparation nothing is really required, just remove all the loose items from your car, and give it a thorough mechanical inspection. A fresh oil change is a good idea depending on when your last change was. Also depending on your experience level, you will want to change out to a higher temperature brake fluid and a better pad compound. If you are new to it though, the stock set up will probably to OK (I'd still change out to a decent DOT4 brake fluid though at the very least).

ICSCC just recently posted their schedule so you can see their Driver's Training Days:

http://www.icscc.com/season.php

Several coming up in March/April too.

Turn 2 Lapping also has their calendar up:

Fun note, the owner of Turn2 Lapping is also the IRDC race chairman this year.

$150 is a great price if its not wet. I don't want to tip toe through the puddles and eat spray all day. I'll wait and pay a few bucks more. I must admit a bias toward ORP and TC. More challenging track and extremely well organized events. If you are first timer or want instruction, they have excellent instructors, most of whom are race drivers. Hope to see you guys out there!

Oh I've been to my fair share of track days but I slowed down going cause my Diff is making a not so nice noise. I'll probably hit up 1 or 2 events this year with one of them being ORP hopefully

Thanks for the info, I'm hoping to get to some events this year. That is, if I can convince the wife..

This is not an event for novices or first timers at ORP. Make sure you have verifiable experience before signing up. Both race prepared and street cars will be on course at the same time. There will not be any run groups. You will be free to come and go on track as you see fit. Should be fun, but for most of us in 86's we will be some of the slowest cars out there, watch your mirrors!

torqdork 02-25-2015 01:31 PM

I posted in another thread that I sold my FR-S and no longer have anything available for track duty. So, if anyone cares to ride share I'll pay your entry fee and lunch to AROO if we register for the early sign up discount.

You have first choice of run group, I'll take the other.

I have over a dozen track days at PIR in various cars, never spun or wrecked which might explain why I'm so slow.

I'll extend the offer to ORP as well except for the first TC event since I'll be out of town and for most of the month of June.

For ORP I'll pay your entry fee and if needed shared hotel room, dinner the night before and breakfast/lunch the day of the event, prefer CCW run direction.

Offer stands until I get another car capable of track duty.

PM if interested, thanks.
