WARNING: Toms Taillight owners, check for melting!

It was brought to my attention via another thread that there is a issue with Toms Tailights melting in a certain location:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82815

I went out and checked mine, and sure enough its also melted in the same location but WORSE than was first shown in that thread:

So the rest of the Toms owners out there, go out and check your lights and see if they have this issue! Don't know if its only the clear lights or if its the colored lights as well.

Where did you buy these lights from? If I were you, I'd put your stock lights back on until your new Toms arrive. If it's hot enough to melt that plastic, I'm sure it's hot enough to start a fire.

Looks like you have the clear Tom's, yes? I think the other guy did, too.

My JDM Tom's (red with orange turns) are just fine.

Put the stockers back in IMMEDIATELY after I saw this.

Lost one car to a fire already in my life, don't want to do so again.

Is the plastic actually melting? or is it warping because of sunlight? The buddy club taillights has the warping issue.

my JDM all red TOM'S have been fine the last two years here.

I was just about to post buddy club taillights were warping from heat. Well at least that makes me not want Tom's tails anymore, that's good saves money lol. That sucks though.

Actually melting.

Weird. My red USDM TOM'S were fine after about a year.

x1UP 02-23-2015 10:29 PM

To think I was going to get TOMS too. I wonder if Valentis have any problems with them? Seems like staying stock tail lights is the way to go..

Burrcold 02-23-2015 11:10 PM

So is this a clear TOM'S issue so far?

So far it looks like its only been CLEAR Toms, but people need to keep reporting in so we can be sure.

Doesn't seem like any taillights are safe, lol. OEM ones leak, TOM'S clear ones melt, lol. But seriously, the TOM'S ones are made by DEPO which are an OEM and major aftermarket supplier.

I use to own the JDM red Tom's with no issues. I now have a set of JDM clear Tom's yet to be installed. Are the melting issues specific to the USDM or is also an issue with JDM or both ? Kind of surprised as they are all made by DEPO.

STOCK - Condensation issues
VALENTI - Both condensation and faulty leds
BUDDY CLUB - Melting issues
TOMS - Melting issues

Guess I should have went with my gut on the Intecs as my next tail light option :eyebulge:
Smoked stocks are still my favorite with upgraded gaskets ;)
