What motor oil are you running in your car?

Yeah, I'm not asking what oil the best. But what oil are you guys using in your car, and why?

I'm actually running Royal Purple, because they have a 5 Quart jug and I can just buy another quart. Since our oil capacity is 5.7 or somewhere around there. I can just head over to amazon or my local wal mart (Yeah I can't believe Wal Mart has RP)

I've been wanting to try other oil like AMSoil or Redline. But I cannot find a 5 quart jug. Are you guys actually buying 6 quarts at a time?

I was also going to buy AMSoil but on their site they only have a gallon (4 quarts) so I would have to buy an additional 2 quarts and an oil filter. That gets pretty expensive.

For street driving I use 0w-20 TGMO or 0w-20 Mazda with Moly, cheap and effective.

For track it's been either Redline 5w-30 or TGMO 0W-20 (didn't have any issues with either based on used oil analysis)

Eneos for me, I also use Eneos for transmission & love it. Usually I order a box of 1litter jugs from the distributor. (6 jug in 1 box)

just the oem synthetic 0w20. my local dealership sells a box of 12 for pretty cheap so i just get that out of convenience.

[edit] saw my box of oil yesterday and it's 0w20 for my car. i got a box of 5w20 for my gf's car though and got it mixed up

So I read somewhere probably in this area, I think it was a forum post like this but they had a poll about who's running what oil in his/her car.

A couple people said that Mobil1 our boxer engines don't like it. Which is also why I havent been running Mobil1. Do you have any issues with it?

Toyota (TGMO) 0W20. I get it by the case (12 X 1L) from my local dealer for about $5 per liter. Good oil at a good price, plus they take my used oil when I pop in for a fresh case.

This is just my opinion... Those complaints were when the EJ blocks were everywhere, and on a huge forum where many were modded and driven extremely hard. To be honest I can't understand why one synthetic would cause issues where another doesn't. Mobil 1 is most likely the most common/popular synthetic so it makes sense that most complaints would be voiced by people using it. If it were really the cause of rod bearing problems or whatever, it would be FAR more widespread, and would affect other platforms as well. I personally believe the Mobil 1 myth was perpetuated by people looking for a scapegoat or something, and it just got out of hand. The vast vast vast majority of us really don't understand these oils on a chemical level, very very few people actually do, so for a bunch of armchair engineers arguing over the internet, it's pretty far fetched and I wouldn't give it much concern. There's been far too many Subarus run with Mobil 1 that have never had issues. The upset vocal minority will command the stage.

If it were a real issue, we'd be seeing the same trend with the FA, which actually shares nothing with the EJ series other than the flat four layout.
If it still concerns you, there's plenty of other options to put your paranoia at ease.

Really appreciate the feedback, I might actually start running Mobil1 now. I just bought Royal Purple. Lol so I might try it out next time if it goes on sale.
