Clicking noise in wheel area, driver side

Hi guys,

I've just noticed recently that my car makes a clicking noise very similar to that of a playing card in a bicycle wheel on the driver side. The noise corresponds with the tire speed, example, if I slow down the clicks slows down and if I speed up it'll speed up. The noise is only noticeable if I have the windows down. I've checked all four wheels for nail studs, rocks, and other foreign matter but it looks fine. Car is on stock Primacys, stock wheels, stock suspension. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this problem and if they've found a solution for it.

Thanks a bunch!

Where is the noise coming from? Front left, front right, rear left, rear right? Center? Unknown?

Does the noise correspond with tire speed or engine/tranny speed? Is it prevalent with clutch in and out?

It's definitely on the Left cannot quiet pinpoint the sound, but I am 75% sure it's Left Rear. The sound corresponds with tire speed.

If it's clicking and proportional with tire speed, I'm guessing CV Joint.

Typically, CV Joints exhibiting this sound are ones about to go.

CV Joints, especially front CV Joints on FWD/AWD cars, that make this sound only under turning are ones that are bad but are not completely trashed yet.

Take this in asap.

Geez that sucks. Car only just broke 1200 miles.

wow.. very rare if it is indeed that.

Perhaps something entirely different. If it's a constant and replicable noise, which it sounds like it is (pun intended ;) ), then take that bitch in right away!

.. stock rotors?

Was thinking bent rotor/shield... but man, that's low miles. Perhaps a huge rock hit the shield?

Clicking on the rear left hub has been found to be that the axle nut is not torqued to spec. There is a crimp retainer that needs to be un crimped or replaced (they're like $5 or something) and then the bolt torqued down to 138 ft/lbs IIRC. This fixed my car that was doing exactly the same thing. There's a thread around here somplace about it.

EDIT: Here it is...

If indeed axle nut, they're $4.50 each from a Subaru dealer.

Thanks for the help guys, I already have a appointment at the dealers tomorrow for a 'minor maintenance'. I'll bring it to their attention. Also just noticed my car has crickets now. So yeah...

Ignore the crickets as there is no point changing the pump!

Yeah I just read into it and it seemed pointless. But I want to justify my extended warranty purchase! The inner Scrooge McDuck in me wants to squeeze every last penny from it!

Wait until the week before the warranty expires and then go get It changed!
That will truly satisfy your inner duck!
