Just got a new Project car while I wait for my 86!

A very nice condition 2002 Impreza 20K Wagon, this is basically the JDM version of the WRX Wagon. So its much better equipped than the USDM spec cars, auto climate control, center tach, 4pot front brakes, STI seats, HID projectors and 250HP engine are all standard on the JDM car. This particular model is a 5MT and have a few bolt ons already (HKS coilovers, Defi gauges). But I think the price will shock everyone, what u see there only cost me $2500 USD!!! I'm thinking if i should spend some more money on it....I wanna at least re-paint it to white or WR Blue. Just color just doesn't look right on a WRX. But at the end this car is basically for taking my dogs around! |
Mm, you got the Auto X Special.
|
That price is jaw dropping congrats on the car! looks good
|
Dang! I would snatch that up in a heartbeat! Not too many decent cara you can here in the states for $2500...
|
I even found an EJ25 STI engine+ 6MT gearbox from a wrecked 2010 STI for around $4500....but I think the 250HP 2.0L should be enough for now. Anyone know if the EJ25 gonna be an easy swap into the 86/BRZ?
I'm hoping I can get it insured tomorrow and start driving it. This car needs a full detail and service. |
wow, I thought cars were crazy expensive in hong kong
|
cars around 10 yrs old are worthless in HK. Especially these high maintenance performance oriented cars. This car actually cost me more to put it back on the road than the cost of the car (license fee, insurance, detailing, service maintenance)
If this was not a regular WRX but an STI version, this car would worth around 4 times as much. Cuz even if it was a bone stock STI, the STI parts would be worth more than the car itself! I also had a 98 W210 E55 AMG, and that car was worth no more than a few hundred bucks over this WRX LOL |
Not a fan of the 4 spoke MOMO wheel... Its just too big!! But the JDM one still looks better than the USDM MOMO
My WRX https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...84904388_n.jpg USDM Interior http://image.motortrend.com/f/851255...ring_Wheel.jpg Hopefully I can get this wheel used http://jdmengineland.com/images/STEE...%20(Small).jpg |
Recently sold my WRX wagon for cheap... but this wagon would put it to shame. JDM-land always gets better cars.
|
how much did u sold yours for?
|
Finally went to drive it and test it out...
The car is in very good condition, the interior is near mint. I'd say 4/5. Quite a bit of aftermarket parts installed, so far I could see are the following. The car probably got into a minor front end accident, the front bumper is off a sedan and it doesn't align with the left fenders. FGK catback exhaust SARD Top mount Intercooler SARD Radiator Some type of Cold Air Intake HKS blow off valve Cusco front and rear tower bar (front has been removed, probably cuz of the larger intercooler) STI pedals DEFI Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, Water Temp and Boost Grounding kit HKS Coilovers STI mesh foglight covers and OEM STI 17" wheels The car is definitely showing its age and not very well maintained, so its gonna need a full tune up. If i could get a cat-less downpipe and COBB Accessport to this car, I think I can get it to around 280-300HP easily. Something really weird is that the pedal travel is really short. I'm not sure if this is a WRX thing or just something wrong with the car. Throttle response is crap that's for sure. But I expected that out of this car. Handling wise, the chassis is still quite strong, especially with the HKS coilovers, it feels solid! Brakes on this car were just complete garbage, even tho it had the Subaru 4pot, to just stop the car under normal driving, I had to use all that was offer. Even the ABS came on! I was testing this car under 32 degrees sunny dry pavement! Insurance quote for this car is insane! I was expecting 3rd party liability to be only around $200 USD, but it turns out, I got quoted for at least $1000 USD a year. Just cuz this car is a Subaru! Things that probably need to be fixed new clutch new brake pads, fluid, rotors new tires new oil upgrade the aged up rubber hoses to Samco stuff and fix up the wiring a bit... I'd probably remove the grounding kit. From my experience, it offer nothing but rust! But for a beater price, this car is absolutely bang for the buck! Getting washed and polish https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...27962035_o.jpg One thing I hate buying these used JDM rice rockets... People do a crap job at the wirings! https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...41171132_o.jpg Ugly Defi gauges... but whatever, a set of BF gauges cost more than the car! https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...69328830_o.jpg JDM seats, just as great as the 86 seats! https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...21621503_n.jpg Dirty engine and messy wiring.... Every used WRX or STI have a very dirty and messy engine bay... No idea why people do this in HK! https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...31589485_o.jpg JDM Projectors with HID... I had been dreaming for these when I had a WRX Sedan 10 years ago in Canada! https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...66215569_o.jpg |
Insurance alone is ridiculous. Good luck trying to clean that mess up, looks like a fun project.
|
Took the car to a Subaru expert shop... They told me just put it back on the market and see if some idiot buys it. They said it wouldn't be worth it for me to restore it to my standards. Fixing up this car would make the cost high enough for me to get a perfectly fine bone stock + low milege 04-05 STI!
Also, I've been having trouble trying to get insurance for this car under my company's name. No one is willing to insure it unless I pay around 2k USD a year! Which is BS when this car is only worth that much! As soon as the insurance agents know that its a Subaru with Turbo, they just put it as an extreme high risk case. my Insurance on my Prius C is less than half of that and its full coverage not just 3rd party, and that car is brand new!!!! Even the 86's insurance for full coverage was not a lot more!!!! |
That car could fetch over $7,000 in New England, awesome!
