My car build/journal
I'm going to use this to try to keep track of everything I do and want to do to my car. I'm a "possibilities" person not so much a "decisions" person so my list of want-to-do will probably change quite frequently (assuming I keep it up to date). But hopefully this thread will help me organize my thoughts and maybe get suggestions and feedback from ya'll other toyobaru owners. I will probably try to organize modifications by type (power, weight reduction, suspension, aesthetics, etc)
So to start here's my car as purchased. Amaya is a 2015 FR-S 6MT bought in July and is my first new car :happyanim: http://i.imgur.com/NGwmz74.jpg For anyone that's interested, Amaya is the English spelling of a Japanese name that means "evening rain" Current Mods (* means I have it but it's not on the car): Zeta catback exhaust Spec D headlights (clear/black) Valenti taillights and reverse bar (clear/red) Enkei Kojin 17x8 +45 front 17x9 +45 rear Dunlop Direzza ZII 235/40 front 245/40 rear Borla UEL headers (wrapped) Top Speed Pro 1 overpipe and catless front pipe (wrapped) OFT tune via Tactrix OpenPort (currently running E85 stage 2 UEL) Current pic http://i.imgur.com/WZfD6Y7.jpg What I want to do next: More time in the seat at autocross events Modify side markers to be turn signal only Modify LED running lights switch to be integrated with headlight switch BRZ fender garnish swap and modified to be functional vents Debadge frs/ paint scion badges black Minor weight reduction without losing too much comfort/DD status In the more distant future: Oil cooler (need to start logging temps to determine if needed) Track/second (lighter) set of wheels (RPF1's?) Weight reduction |
Power/engine performance modifications
Borla UEL headers Top Speed Pro 1 overpipe and frontpipe All of the above wrapped and sealed Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 for tuning and datalogging OFT's E85 Stage 2 UEL tune http://i.imgur.com/BMldlfV.jpg http://i.imgur.com/zZriy7x.jpg http://i.imgur.com/34S1CUq.jpg |
Suspension/wheels
After going to an autocross event I've decided to hold off on suspension mods for some time, as more seat time would be a better performance to cost upgrade. I went with Enkei Kojins because I like the 5 spoke look on these cars Front: 17x8 +45 offset with Dunlop ZII's in 235/40 Rear: 17x9 +45 offset with Dunlop ZII's in 245/40 http://i.imgur.com/zCqFq6t.jpg http://i.imgur.com/SuElKLC.jpg Thanks to everyone who has helped in one way or another with the wheel directory, it was a huge help in choosing size and offsets and not having any clearance issues |
Aesthetics/lighting
Spec D headlights Valenti tails/reverse Zeta Catback Exhaust (not sure how much this counts towards performance but I mostly got it for the sound) http://i.imgur.com/YBCpUTl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/tBGC0bM.jpg http://i.imgur.com/o7HFgoE.jpg http://i.imgur.com/z0eIcT6.jpg http://i.imgur.com/nMBr3YB.jpg http://i.imgur.com/wGaKAcU.jpg http://i.imgur.com/EzFOib9.jpg I have removed all the badges (anything silver on the exterior) to paint them black, however I may not put the FRS badge back on, we will have to see. |
Weight reductions
So far I've removed the owners manual :D but I've also added my typical stuff that stays in my DD (change of clothes, some tools, minor first aid/preparedness stuff) Catback exhaust and headers were quite a bit lighter than stock, so some weight loss there. |
Daily Driver stuff
Suction cup magnetic phone mount for when I use GPS along with a long enough (mounted on little forward triangle drivers door window) usb cable to charge it 1/4 socket set Leatherman multitool rope tire pressure gauge bag of overnight stuff (change of clothes etc.) USB drive with musics for the listening thereof |
Went to my first autocross event yesterday and had an absolute blast. Also I placed fastest in my class (novice) which was both surprising and very cool. Gonna start making autocross a regular activity.

Not totally sure, novices ran with what would be their normal classes but only competed against the other novices. These are the results if your'e interested, I was novice/STX #47 https://axwaresystems.com/axorm/file...up%201_fin.htm
|
I'm pretty sure there was at least one brz, lancer, mustang, and a Volvo c30 in the novice group
|
Just flashed an OFT tune with Tactrix Openport 2.0 and EcuFlash!
|
I have the OFT and OFH on my BRZ. Careful if you decide to go with the Borla headers as the OFT isn't quite compatible with anything other than the OFH, it might not run as efficiently.
Either way, I suggest wrapping your headers, the stock headers look as big as they do because there's a lot of heat shielding in it, and I'd rather not have all that exhaust heat staying in the engine bay. It takes about 2 hours (for me at least) and a lot of re-wrapping to get it just right, plus spraying the sealant then installing, but it's worth it. -RyanG |
Do you think I would see a decrease in performance? I assumed it would still be better than stock. I also want to tune it myself a bit and see if I can get better results since it is just a generic off the shelf tune. But I need to edumacate myself a bit more before I mess with it too much.
I had actually intended to wrap the header before I installed it but completely forgot :bonk: |
Oh, and how much wrap did you use? I wasn't sure how much I would need.
