Is this detailing service worth it?
Hi, I want to go about getting my frs detailed to have them basically reduce or remove swirl marks and I'm not sure how much the pricing should be and whether or not I'm getting a good deal because I've seen detailing just for the exterior of the car go for $200 or higher starting so let me know if I should go for this detailer or if it's cheaper to do it myself.
The company is offering these amenities for $130 Thorough Two Bucket Hand Wash Vehicle shampooed with Foam Cannon Tar remover applied to exterior panels Iron de-contaminator applied to exterior panels and wheels Clay bar applied to paint and glass Wheels and tires given a thorough wash including wheel nuts, behind wheel spokes and inside wheel rims Door jams de-greased and rinsed High definition cleanser applied High gloss polish applied by machine to remove minor swirling while adding gloss and clarity Top of the line sealant and high gloss wax applied Windows cleaned and polished Exterior metalwork polished and sealed including exhaust tips Exterior trim, door seals and tires dressed |
For all of that, thats a good deal. Especially if its from a reputable company

I would ask them what products they use.

A buddy of mine whos family owns multiple body shops in el monte (body shops, paint shops, wheels, car washes, and detailing) *yes he's mexican haha* told me it's not worth it unless your car is much older. Most of the time you can get those swirls out with some wax. But if youre willing to spend the money on it it's usually not a waste of money. I knew a guy who paid to have his s2k car wash and waxed once a week for 45$. Dude had money, eventually sold it for an m3 LOL

Wax doesn't remove swirls it merely fills them. An abrasive compound or polish removes swirls by leveling the surrounding paint to a uniform surface which creates a deeper shine and more reflective surface.

My suggestion is don't always go by just the price. $130 is an attractive offer, but the detailer is has to sacrifice something for that price, it can be type of product, labor, technique or time. In most cases you have to return to the same detailer maybe 2 or 3 times to achieve the results you want. Just do some research and locate a knowledgeable person, you'll be happy with the result the first time and you'll save yourself a headache.
If your interested, I trust Jose a A Cut Above Detailing (A.C.A) his number his 626-393-9424. Google him or search for his page on FB. I couldn't recommend anyone else, this is coming from my previous bad experiences. Good Luck |

That seems to be a nice list of services. And the way it is written, I can tell there is some attention to detail. I'm sure there are worse places you can go than that.
If I were to do that much work on someone else's car I'd probably charge $1,000. I'm no pro, but do better quality work than many people that do it for a living. To do all of that, and to do it right, should take ten to 15 man hours or more. I can't imagine someone putting that much work into it and only charging $130. That's $10/hour, not even considering the cost of materials and tools. Maybe people are willing to work for that much, but it wouldn't be someone that has much skill/knowledge in how to properly detail a car. Granted, I have pretty high standards, but it seems to me detailing is one thing where you get exactly what you pay for. If you feel like your standards for a clean car are similar to most people that use Yelp, and the place gets good reviews, I say go for it. Personally, I would never pay someone $130 to detail my car that says they are going to do that list of things. I can't imagine any of them would be done to a high standard. |
