Stainless steel brake lines

Since my BRZ will certainly see track time, I'm trying to source braided stainless steel brake lines. I have the suby OEM part #s here:

26590CA000 R/F
26590CA010 L/F
26591CA000 R/R
26591CA010 L/R

So far I haven't had any luck cross referencing these against those for cars that would have brake line kits already available (WRX etc.). Has anybody else tackled this yet ?

There's a TRD set available but your best bet for is probably looking for a local shop to fabricate some up.

Haha yeah go ahead and buy the TRD ones and then go kill yourself once aftermarket ones come out for a fraction of the price. Just give it time. The stock ones should be pretty stiff for the time being, being brand new and all, I doubt they will flex all that much unless you're doing some serious braking.

After looking closely at the lines on the BRZ, I don't see why any of the already available stainless steel lines won't work if installed carefully. The banjo fittings on the BRZ have little guide pins (hooks) instead of Subarus usual slots to prvent them from turning.

I will be getting a set ordered up and will post up my experience with the install soon.

If you're using SS brake lines please... PLEASE consider them a wear item BECAUSE THEY ARE. Don't think of SS lines as "set it and forget it". In my last 10 race weekends I've seen 3 cars blow SS brake lines due to age/wear/tear/time.

Especially if you're going to be tracking the car.

Good advice, thanks for pointing that out.

Happened to me once actually, not exactly something you want to experience.

Spiegler SS lines should be available within the next two weeks or so. You can see all of the details here. Spiegler is one of the most common names in racing sport bikes, and becoming more popular in the automotive market. They won't be the cheapest on the market, but they will be the highest quality.

1. You need to make sure the length is appropriate, and each application tends to be slightly different. Having extra line could allow them to get into the wheel, suspension components, etc. Not having enough length could put strain on them at full lock.

2. The fittings on the hard line end (where it attaches to the car, not the caliper) may be slightly off in size. If the fittings are too thick, it would require you to file the opening for the line to enlarge the hole to slide them in. That's not a big deal for some people, but others don't want to have to do that sort of thing.

Very nice, thanks !

I should have updated this thread sooner...sorry guys. We've had a number of people buy these already. Our Spiegler Stainless Steel Brake Lines are on the shelf and ready to ship.

We had a bit of a delay, because we were waiting on the rear fittings. The OEM line on the FR-S/BRZ has a 90 degree fitting on the rear. We tested a straight fitting on our project BRZ, but we were getting a little twist, strain, etc. We decided it was an important enough feature to maintain, so we had custom fittings made. All of the fittings on our lines are stainless steel. They are extremely durable, and should last a very long time.

Our lines are DOT compliant, and made with components made in America and in western Europe. The lines are assembled in Ohio, and every line is tested on a pressure bench. They are slightly more expensive than some of the other options out there, but when you see them you will understand why. They're still cheaper than a set of track brake pads, but they are good insurance and will last you far, far longer.

Front FR-S/BRZ

Rear FR-S/BRZ

Below is the rear fitting on which we were waiting...this matches the OEM shape.

Stoptech also has SS lines out. i have them on my car.

Hanakuso 09-19-2012 02:05 PM

I'll probably go with what Essex sells or Goodridge. I've had Goodridge in the past and I like them.

Btw when you guys say periodically replace SS lines. Is there a way to check if your current ones are going bad?
