Have you had rod knock? Care to share some info?

Seems like rod knock and engine failure have been posted more frequently lately.
Would like to see if there are any patterns....
So, if you had this happen to you, please post info:

BRZ/FRS?

Any issues or codes before the knock?

Miles when this happened?

Build date? (found on black sticker inside door)

Brand of oil & filter used?

If you care to share, how do you drive (DD/track/always run at 6000 RPM)?

Or anything else that may be interest!

Thanks

Most of them are 2013 and stock.. rod 4 most them..

I would think that engine failure at the wrong moment could be a safety issue. (engine fails and car stalls with a tractor trailer on your tail).

That is why the National Safety Admin allows people to file complaints. If there are enough issues, they can force a recall.

Is rod 4 on the passenger or driver side?

I think it's been a few isolated cases, as is common with any engine. Still, in for updates.

bump for any new additions!

Theres a new one on the rod 4 knock short block seems like you saw that...

This was not recent but when mine knocked last month and I asked some of my friends about this issue and 2 of them told me that both of their friends had rod knocks also.. one in Florida.. he owns a brz and moved back to Florida and he was riding with his friend on a frs and it knock. When I should him my video he knew what it was and I had no clue what rod knock was at that time..

Other friend friend frs spun a rod also.. here in southern California...

Florida frs (stock)
Southern California frs (full exhaust)

@BRZnut
"Rod knock" is a very broad term and could be the result of many different things, some simple fixes, some difficult and some can lead to catastrophic failure.
To just ask "who has rod knock" does not give you much data with any true value.
To get a better data set you may want to ask something along the line of "what was found to cause the knock?" in your opening post.
Otherwise you may end up with 1000 "I have a strange noise it must be knock" replies where they just assume the noise is knock. Let's face it, if you actually have knock and are still driving around without issues then it likely is not one of the serious causes or "knock" in the first place.
Every single person that states they have "knock" that actually don't will skew your results so badly they will be meaningless.

Point taken ...but I want to cast as wide a net as possible to see what comes up.

Just remember the old adage about data collection!
"Garbage in, garbage out"

I had "Rod Knock" once, I'll never be going back to that club. And you can take that to the bank!
