Coverage of Toyota FT-86 online virtual reveal on Toyota Metapolis

Here is a video covering some of the live virtual reveal of the Toyota FT-86 on Toyota's virtual world "Metapolis" which took place earlier today.

Do we have any Japanese speaking members here who can translate the Q&A session?

K, I'm just translating the Q & A vid. Other 2 didn't have much info other than FT can be translated 藤原とうふ店 (Fujiwara Toufu-ten - Initial-D :)).

I'm warning everyone before hand, I don't speak English. I speak Engrish. :bellyroll: so grammers, and English sentence blah blah blah, stuff is messed up.
Anyways back to good stuff.

Hey thanks for the translation! That's funny their response about what "FT" stood for :w00t:

Is that seriously what the FT stands for?

Appreciate you doing all the translation. I'm sure there are many people here that are rusty on their Japanese

If that's what the FT stands for then it HAS to stay named the FT86. :w00t:

It's not official, FT stands for Fujiwara Toufu-ten, but from reading few articles online about Tada-san (Chief Engineer) sounds like he love Initial D.

I'm sure officially the FT = "future toyota" ? And he's just mentioning the fujiwara tofu-ten because of the AE86 reference and the letters happen to match?

That's what I thought too when I saw these vid. But I'm seeing a lot of articles mentioning Tada-san = Ini-D lover... but I'm pretty sure FT means Future Toyota. Just ppl are bored, so they love to change the FT terms around

yeah ichi pretty much got it all. there was one interesting tidbit in tada-san's introduction. when asked "when do you feel enjoyment when driving?" he responded when he downshifts or turns the steering wheel and gets it just right, or is able to match revs right on. he feels this comes from a basic human feeling of wanting to improve and get good at something. he feels that many of today's cars can be driven pretty well regardless of whether you're good at driving or not (which means you are unable to experience that feeling of getting something right on or improving your skills). so when designing the ft-86, he wanted to build a car where he could once again revive that feeling of excitement of being able to improve one's skills. sounds like he really has the right idea in terms of developing this car.
