Playing movies from SD or USB

Hi all!
I have a 2013 BRZ with the eclips AVN827GA. I was wondering if you guys have tried playing movies from another SD card (take out sat nav SD) or USB player?
I put 3 snowboarding movies (2 AVI 1 MPG) on both an SD Card and a USB stick, turned on the car but neither showed.. Should I bother changing the formats to something else or stick to old fashion DVDs lol.

Any help would be great :w00t:

I haven't tried the SD card but I have put some fairly long video clips of TV shows on a USB stick and it works fine, so long as the files are in .avi format. I had to convert the files into .avi beforehand, which was a bit of a pain but at least it's possible.

Whoops - I just noticed you are referring to the "eclipse AVN827GA" -- I don't have that; using the stock crappy head unit.

sorry not trying to jack your thread but you can play movies on the stock media player? just put files in .avi format on a usb, plug into below heater knobs and then it will show up on the screen? can i put music videos on like this?!

Yes, stock HU will play video. HOWEVER, it's only when car is in neutral, e-brake is up, and you're not moving...

well that completely defeats the purpose...lol ok so on my old car i had to buy a dvd from toyota for $125 that allowed me to use my gps while moving, it countered or cancelled the safety feature. im wondering if anyone knows about one for the twins?

Thanks guys!

Yep after a bit of playing around I have now converted all my snowboarding movies to avi 685 x x385 with an awesome program called Super Simple Video Converter (http://download.cnet.com/SuperSimple...-75756107.html)
Chucked them on a usb hd and boom all working!

I have removed my handbrake boot and cut the plastic button that activates all the extra options and dvd when the handbrake is up so now that all works fine while driving. Mind you its mainly so my girlfriend can put in addresses and watch dvds not me (saftey first mum).

Mind you now the little handbrake light is always on ((!)). But I thinks theres a way to wire it so that doesn't happen I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Anyway thanks again for the help, most appreciated!

Road trips for days!

Stock head units from all three years?

im curious if anyone has tried pulling the fuse to turn off the e-brake light after cutting the wire under the boot?

Just ground the wire.

Also, stock HU reads GPS speed and disables video. There's no workaround unless you have one of the really old units w/o the update afaik.
