Think this will buff out?

Will turtle wax work or do you think I should splurge on some Meguires?

Summary of what happened:

2 left turn lanes, me on the outside, CRZ on the inside. Light's green, we make our turns through the intersection. Ok, no problem there. I'm passing her in the middle lane, where I'm supposed to be, while she's in the inside lane, where she's supposed to be.

Next thing I know, I see her drift into my lane through my left rear view mirror. I immediately hit the brakes. She then end up flooring it, running into me some more, and doing a burnout... O_O panic maybe?

So okay, I'm at 4% cell phone battery... good thing I had a backup phone in my glovebox. Pull that out, call police and insurance. When I finally exit my car to take pictures, I notice her car is STILL ON, but also leaking fluids everywhere (no oil, probably washer fluid and/or coolant). I tell her to turn her car off, then police arrive and we pull off to the side. Now my car is sitting at the local dealer's body shop.

Time to gather all my docs for all the mods I have on it so I can file a diminished value claim when the time comes.

At first glance, damage looks to be about 7-8k+
Rear 1/4 replacement
Rear bumper
Trim under bumper
Rear body panel
Maybe bumper beam
Left tail light
Paint + blend
new left rear wheel and maybe 2 rear tires

Time to put some miles on a rental car...

dpgfunk 02-04-2015 11:26 PM

Should buff right out with Meguairs...not sure about the turtle wax though

Negative1 02-04-2015 11:30 PM

Ouch that's sucks dude I hope everything works out for you.

swarb 02-04-2015 11:51 PM

I'm glad you still have a sense of humor after all that. Why is she still in her car like she is still driving? Crazy old lady.

LOL. The way I see it, that's what insurance is for. Also, less miles on my car, more miles on rental, not that I have many miles anyways. She was in her late 60's I think, and either really shaken by the accident or something.

In the larger scheme of things, this is really just a small bump in the road. I got larger things to worry about. =)

However, the one thing I'm concerned about is the diminished value claim, and how much I'll be able to get from that. I know how to file it, and I can have an attorney write the demand letter, but I'd just like to know approximately how much I'll be able to get.

How many miles on the car?

ashtray 02-05-2015 01:57 AM

Wait - you saw her coming towards your car and you decided to hit the brakes so she could hit you??

Meant to put "after she hit me." She initially hit me, which I saw in the mirror, then I stopped, and that's when she sorta hit me again / did a burn out.

Now that I think of it, maybe she feel asleep. How can someone miss a car that's in front of them?? I wasn't even driving fast, just leisurely driving and shifting at 2500.

About 6,800 =/ haven't even owned it a year yet.

industrial 02-05-2015 10:17 AM

I was rearended while stopped in behind a bunch of cars at a red light. I'm willing to guess the lady that hit me (and later claimed it wasn't her fault after talking with her husband on the phone which was after she apologized repeatedly right after the accident...lol) was ... on her jitterbug cell phone. Really sucks about your car man, hope your body shop does a good job!

AznBRZer 02-05-2015 10:45 AM

Looks like that CRZ wanted to make a baby with your BRZ.

Tgionet 02-05-2015 11:08 AM

I have nothing to add to this except that your avatar reminds me of the Miku Stomp pedal

Yeah it always surprises me how many people don't understand how a double left-turn lane works. You have to stay IN YOUR LANE through the turn, otherwise you will hit the car in the next lane over.

You would think this would be pretty intuitive, but without fail I always see people veering out of their lanes like this lady.

Maximal 02-05-2015 11:55 AM

Not sure if I've ever seen someone so OK with their car getting smashed up. Props to you for staying calm and realizing it's not the end of the world. Hopefully everything will work out with insurance/the repairs. Keep us posted!

shiro 02-05-2015 12:27 PM

That's a bummer but the good news is it looks fixable. I've done a lot of repair work on my FRS so I guess I'm laid back like you LOL. But I hope the body shop hooks you up and she drives like new again!

Hey, maybe it's a good time to buy the Greddy Rocket Bunny Wide Body Kit and use the insurance money for it :D. Hope it all works out for you!!

ScoobsMcGee 02-05-2015 12:56 PM

Can we talk about her plates and how she likely meant velour as opposed to valeur?

Sorry about the accident, and glad to see you keeping a good sense of humor about it. Hope everything works out for the best.

Crazy part is... we were well past the intersection, and I was in FRONT of her. Not like she couldn't see me. Drifting over accidents seem to happen more with the inside person running into the outside person because the outside person is in a blind spot, or a side to side contact. This one is just weird since I was clearly in front of her and visible. Thus leading to me thinking she fell asleep or something. The sudden panicked acceleration also leads me to think that too.

My insurance pays directly to the body shop. However, I'll ask to see what they can do for me. Problem is that the 1/4 panel needs to be cut and welded to be replaced, so it's not as simple as just cutting the damage and adding a fender flare. The rear bumper however...

Will keep everyone posted. What I'm really interested in is the diminished value claim...

aznatama 02-05-2015 01:38 PM

So I just got off the phone w/ the body shop. Looks like I can sub in parts if I wanted to, but they won't touch complex fiberglass.

I wonder if the Cleib diffuser will fit over my exhaust? Or maybe it's time to get the drivewaylabs diffuser...

Any suggestions for some ABS goodies?

Any damage to the 3k+ catback? O______O

Not sure, but that would be a nice amount to work with if it was damaged. It doesn't appear to be significantly damaged, but since it's Ti, I don't think there's any fixing of ANY damage or dent to it. They're going to try to dissemble later today.

Eski 02-05-2015 02:15 PM

glad your ok. glad your staying positive. you go put them miles on a rental! xD here in california its legal to turn into either lane while making a left or right turn with two lanes (ofc only if the lane is open) but people dont look/care or something else that causes them to be idiots and turn into the outside lane from the inside and cut me off. got in an accident in the work truck twice last year because people turned into my lane because they just dont look. one guy was on his phone and then insisted to the cops that it was all my fault and that i was an agressive driver who rammed him because he was in my way...lol the police denied the possibility of that happening once they looked at the scene.

anyways i digress. i hope your car gets returned to as close to normal as possible and hopefully no chasis damage.

Nessal 02-05-2015 02:34 PM

God I deal with morons like this two hours a phucking day. What a dumb ass bitch. Sorry I'm bitter.

I think the inside left turn lane can ONLY go into the inside lane after a left turn, while the outside left turn person can go into any lane. But once actually IN a lane and past the solid white line area, then you need to follow normal rules regarding lane changes. I'm from Cali, and this is what I can remember from the many traffic schools I've been to... LOL oh well.

I don't think there's any frame damage, and hope there's no damage to the suspension from her flooring it after being in contact w/ my car... we'll see what happens.

i think that sounds correct but as far as anybody really cares (especially you jackasses in your giant lifted trucks) they can turn into any lane because well "hey i can just run you over" or "well i wont do any damage to my tow hitch"

lol ive been to so many traffic schools as well, did you know ( at least here in cali) you can go more than every 18 mo? all you have to do is go to court and ask the judge to let you go.

zc06_kisstherain 02-05-2015 03:09 PM

sorry to hear and see this. glad you're ok.
I would be so pissed off if this happens to me.
keep us updated how repair goes

Eski 02-05-2015 03:13 PM

i keep coming back here and looking at the pictures, i keep LOL'ing when i see the lady just sitting in the car after all the time it must have taken for OP to get out, take pics, call police, police arrive and are standing at her window and she still is just sitting in the car, with the car ON looking helpless and confused. poor old lady but still...react...do something..

damaster32 02-05-2015 04:27 PM

NOVA drivers suck, Was that on the parkway?

aznatama 02-05-2015 04:31 PM

Yup. Rugby/ffx cnty Pkwy.

chas3wba0 02-05-2015 04:45 PM

They should total your car, buy you a new one, and revoke that old hag's license (in an ideal world).

aznatama 02-05-2015 04:47 PM

I'd be really surprised if they totaled it... Highly doubt it. I think the total loss value in VA is 75%, so unless damages are over ~$18k, there's little chance of a total loss.

I know, just thinking wishfully for you. If it were just crumpled body panels--whatever--but from the looks of it, she continued plowing forward like a clueless idiot, possibly putting stress on the rear wheel and drivetrain. :paddle:

Did you talk to her? Was she remorseful at all or indignant, because in the picture she just looks insane.

Eski 02-05-2015 04:58 PM

im still baffled that she was still sitting in the car with the car running while the cop is walking up to the cars..

aznatama 02-05-2015 04:59 PM

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. Had to pry metal away from rear wheel to move car. No idea about alignment and rear suspension. I'll see what the body shop finds.

aznatama 02-05-2015 05:02 PM

Yeah, cop has to ask her several times if she was okay. She seemed quite out of it. Maybe shock? No idea. Baffled me too. There were plastic pcs of the cars on my hood and windshield too. O.o

Eski 02-05-2015 05:04 PM

what did she end up saying was the reason she hit you?

aznatama 02-05-2015 05:09 PM

No idea, didn't talk to her... Got plenty of pictures showing she was clearly in my lane and that we were well past intersection. Location of hit already in my favor too, imo. She eventually exited her car to speak with the officer after we pulled over to the side, but appeared rather dazzled still. No idea what was up with her and didn't want to approach.

Eski 02-05-2015 05:10 PM

haha i dont blame you im just glad nobody was hurt. cars can be fixed, people not so much

BlueSky 02-05-2015 05:29 PM

Good luck man,
I don't know how you can be so calm...I would be losing my mind if that happened to me

I know it's not right to hit women...but, there is always exceptions ;)

aznatama 02-05-2015 05:32 PM

Things are usually easily fixed or compensated for. I'd rather use my time and energy towards getting compensation and other productive means, than tripping out over other people's negligence. =)

Mrpolarbear 02-07-2015 07:59 PM

Spare cell phone in the glove compartment?

Drugs/prostitute phone?
