California FBM turbo kit owners

I'm in the market for this kit but a few concerns came to mind. I know that this kit isn't CARB legal. Have any of you guys been pulled over and been given a ref ticket? any trouble with the police wanting to check whats under your hood? thanks guys.

@mike the snake is the only Cali owner I remember off hand. You can check the FBM owner's thread to find others:

I haven't had any issues, but my car is still registered in PA. I don't think the cops pay much attention to it since it has PA plates and registration.

Thats a surprise! They love to hassle out of staters that are actually in-staters. My previous impreza was registered with Arizona plates and I got pulled over a few times.

Still have my Arizona License and got pulled over yesterday. Got luck though, was marked for doing 70 ina 65 instead of 86 and was given a warning about the license.

No remarks about not running a front plate or having a loud exhaust this time.

In SoCal with an FBM kit running no cats at the moment and wondering the exact same thing... hopefully I don't find out what happens from experience first haha

its honestly a crap shoot. depends on what kind of cops you drive around. LA county, probably not as high of risk to get stopped for vehicle kind of infractions. but I've heard of exceptions to that rule.

Orange county, a lot higher probability to get stopped. Just never go to Irvine in a highly modified car.... bad experiences with Irvine PD and modified cars. I am convinced they don't have much to do so they go after this stuff more.

I'm not too worried about L.A cops since I live in Nor cal. I mean, I still travel to so cal every once in awhile so it's good to know to avoid certain areas.

OOOOH, I didn't notice you are from Modesto. I'd think an FRS would stick out pretty well up there. I have a co-worker from there.

Yeah, if I'm not mistaken, I think I might be the only turbo frs in modesto. I might be mistaken. So I don't want to stick out like a sore thumb!

Know your rights.
Don't consent to a search.
99% of the time they have no right, and 99% of the time people open the hood anyways.
