wow, what prompted you to switch? I see a lot of discussion on here about people thinking about moving over to a 911.

The car in the garage is a '04 40th Anniversary 911, so it has performance upgrades from a standard 996. I bought it as my daily driver to replace a '06 Cayman S which had blown up from oil starvation during a canyon run. I absolutely LOVED the Cayman for its handling balance, but the 911 suffers from terminal understeer at or near the limit. Basically, it plows into corners like a Buick Sedan regardless of what any fanboys say. Supposedly, a proper alignment is critical to a 911, but it still won't overcome the lack of weight on the front end.
Anyone here interested in "upgrading" to a 911 needs to figure out exactly why. If it's just for cruising around town or (very) mildly spirited driving, the 911 is a logical choice. But if you're going to track it, stick with the FT86 or get a Cayman instead. Understeer is never enjoyable.
I took the new car up in the mountains today and switched off all the driver aids. VERY impressive. Good balance, confidence-inspiring progressive breakaway, and great valving of the stock dampers (shocks). Yeah, the engine isn't very smooth and fairly gutless, but I knew what I was getting, so not really an issue. This is my new daily driver, but I'm looking forward to beating on it at nearby Chuckwalla Valley Raceway sometime.
