My car is parked inside every night. I left it overnight in a well lit parking lot while I was staying at friends and in the morning it didn't start.

I took it to the dealer as I thought it was a warranty issue and it turns out a Rat made a nest and chewed through my cam angle sensor harness... $250 dollars later.

This ever happen to anyone else?

Kotu100 02-02-2015 09:42 PM

Wow that sucks.

No snow yet? Lucky.

Decay107 02-02-2015 09:51 PM

That sucks!

This is exactly why I paid the dealer extra for the small rodent repellent film option, money well spent it seems.

fito68 02-02-2015 09:55 PM

Is this for real? This is indeed a damn first.

dnieves 02-02-2015 09:58 PM

Sorry to hear.... but nice color!

Tcoat 02-02-2015 10:02 PM

Had a squirrel fill the intake on my Lancer with peanuts when I was away for a week once.
Had a possum hide on my driveshaft on my 58 Chev (it didn't end well for him) once.
But never had a rat eat wires (yet)

86SPEED 02-02-2015 10:05 PM

A squirrel chewed the injector wires off my Ex brand new Malibu when they first came out. Had just enough to barely solder them back on and the little shit came back and finished the job to were we had to order a new harness..

I stopped that search immediately! I will not accept that rodents could chill in your car lol.

I found a rats nest behind my bumper cover when I pulled it off to install fog lights. Would post a picture, but it's on Instagram and I'm lazy.

swarb 02-02-2015 11:09 PM

I had a old caddilac that a rat go into. Starting problems also, but he went through the engine harness.
I wonder how the rat got past all those underpanels.
I hope your front bumper/wheels are ok.

8R6 02-02-2015 11:13 PM

happens to all kinds of cars, new and old. i dont think ive ever heard of it happening here in socal, but ive read plenty of threads from different forums of it happening to others :(

Hot Lava 02-02-2015 11:15 PM

Rats. What? It was just laying there. Someone had to pick it up.

Chimera 02-02-2015 11:58 PM

Had a cat get into the belts on a van... Very unfortunate situation.

N1rve 02-03-2015 12:01 AM

My friend's lexus IS250 had his coolant hoses chewed up...it was like a 400 dollar fix.

lost my modded turbo'ed 07 tiburon due to rats (i live in florida, we have tree rats that live and love water)

Insurance totaled car out because of the amount of damage they caused no joke. It sat for a few weeks inside a garage and that's when they destroyed my car =(

WesleyG 02-03-2015 02:08 AM

A buddy of mine, had a rat eat every bit of wire that connected the front clip of the car to the rest of the car.... It was not pretty

Jrryjms07 02-03-2015 10:38 AM

A buddy of mine just bought a Kia Soul but the weird thing is that there was no rodents in it.. Jk

Last summer I tried to sell an accord at work and found out that a mama mouse and her babies were hiding around the radiator when my customer wanted to look under the hood.

Well there's your problem!
Serpentine belt is loose!

OICU812 02-03-2015 02:23 PM

RAT? Wow I am glad my province made them extinct many moons ago, never even seen one and didn't know Vancouver was infested with them?

civdaddy 02-03-2015 02:52 PM

Damn $250 for just a wire to be put back together. I had it happen to a abs wire and I'm glad I fixed it myself because the squirrel chewed it two more times.

streetzeal 02-03-2015 03:59 PM

Ya I definitely would have fixed it myself had I known that was the issue... they charged me 2 hours of labor to "find the problem" I could have fixed it myself in 15 minutes in a parking lot... oh well it happens - and apparently not just to me with everyone elses stories!

gravitylover 02-03-2015 07:47 PM

Cat in the belts of my 91 4Runner. Icky, sticky, gooey mess. The upside was pressure washing it showed me where all the engine leaks were... Many times have had air filters clogged with nuts.

Rats ate a ton of my cables in my jetta last year... funny thing was, my DSG gearbox failed first. So took it to dealership, they did a bunch of stuff, but didnt checked the cables. Got the car back, 30 mins later gearbox failed again... look under the hood and saw most of the cables were chewed ... crazy stuff.

Ghost of Akina 02-06-2015 02:11 AM

Rats! Never had that happen!
