For having no front plate. In Beaverton of all places. Anyway... For you guys that have relocation kits. Any worries of them getting taken off your car?

Bummer. I've been avoiding doing that as well. It's been one year so far.

I got a fix it ticket along with an 11 minute over-the-limit parking ticket all from a meter maid the third day after having my new plates on.

I was really pissed about it, but honestly my relocation kit has really grown on me, and I think of it as a tiny little shield that helps fend off rock chips from part of my bumper.

I highly recommend the Grimmspeed relocation hit as it is very adjustable, and specific to our platform. You need a 5mm hex wrench, a 3mm hex wrench (if you use screws that come with the kit (I used different ones since I had a thicker license plate frame), and a 17mm socket.

So I think it's unlikely it's going to get stolen, especially if you use a torquing wrench to fasten it on, which is probably what you'd want to use anyway.

I've never had problems with it, or seen any indication that someone's tried to mess with it. Also make sure to add some grease to the main bolt, so you don't shear anything.

Just curious did you have your front plate in the windshield, or not visible at all? I always heard mixed information on weather or not they can ticket you if it's in the windshield.

Unfortunately I didn't have my plate in the dash. I took it off when I cleaned the car and left it in the garage. I'm not sure if they would of helped my case at all either tho.

The officer I worked with was really picky about everything. He questioned my tint, he wanted my paper work for it and then he proceeded to check it, and then he asked me about my exhaust and if I knew how loud it was... I was a bit blind sided by that one.

as for any worries about the relocation kit being removed, I've run mine since i've owned the car and i've never had any issues putting it on or off, and i've never had anyone trying to steal it off my car.

I had the Perrin relocator kit since I got the car. Its been a year and have had no issues at all. I have OCD so I didn't want to deal with the adjustment of the grimmspeed one lol. The relocator is very solid and no one has seemed to mess with it in socal. Even if they tried, they would need a few tools.

did you try the, " i can't put a number plate on the front as thereis no option for it".

Also, beaverton cops suck balls. They have nearly 10 cops on payroll only doing traffic duty, aka, handing out tickets all day long. I make it a point to obey all rules when am in washington county, which unfortunately is a lot of my driving time since i work there.

Running without the number plate myself as well up front.

I'd definitely recommend the Grimmspeed kit. It's very adjustable and comes with some sweet license plate frames. I've never had any problems with people trying to steal it, but I suppose it's possible.

Yeah, I was carrying mine around in the dash to. For some reason I tossed it in the back of my car (I think it might have been sliding around on my dash, and I was going to figure out a way to secure it better later). I had it in then back seat of my car when I got the citation - I totally meant to place it in the dash, and I had just forgot :(

That's pretty ridiculous for him to be questioning your tint, and exhaust. If he "isn't sure" if it is too dark, or the exhaust too loud, that's bogus of him, and clearly he's just looking to nail you for something. That's pretty awful - I read some nasty stories on this forum about cops nailing people for ridiculous crap like that, but I didn't think that was something I had to worry about here. I drive by, text to, and around cops fairly frequently, and I've never felt worried about them doing anything like that.

What did you say about your exhaust? I feel like they shouldn't really be able to argue with you if you say that it's resonated - unless they really just want to be an ass to you.

That makes me nervous too because I was pretty set on getting a 30% tint, and he was asking you for documentation for it. Did you do anything to get his attention, or was it really just for the front plate, and he started questioning that stuff? Sometimes I feel like not having a tint really helps in avoiding getting targeted for the other stuff as it sort of says you have nothing to hide.

You people live in a police state. I cant believe the harassment you and Californians get from the police who should be out looking after your safety and welfare. Of course they figure you have the money, not the real criminals, so easy income for them. Apparently you must all conform and act in a singular fashion. No diversity or original thoughts allowed. I really find it hard to believe a missing front license plate is such a critical item to crime prevention. How about the police go after those driving without insurance or driving an unsafe vehicle.:sigh:

I got pulled over 4 months after owning mine for no plate. Tried ditching in a neighborhood I didn't know, took a wrong turn and ended up on a dead end street. Cop let me off without even a fix it ticket, just said I should put one on. He said he liked how clean the car was, guess I was just lucky.

I've heard different things about the Grimspeed but I don't have personal experience with it. I bought the Perrin kit and have been more than happy with it. Since there is less adjustment with the Perrin, there are less chances for the adjustment screws to loosen over time and give the plate a gangster lean. The kit has not moved in over three months since owning it. I've taken my car to downtown portland where it almost got stolen if I didn't run them off, and the would be thieves were not positioned around the plate.

Sounds like the cops might be cracking down on imports again out there, they did that up in Vancouver awhile back. Or did you get pulled over last night during/ after the game. I knew there were extra patrols out for drunk driving.

The Perrin kit works well, I have hit cones in autocross with the plate mount and it held up fine. It stays tight too. You can tighten the nuts down enough so it is hard to loosen the mounting bracket, but if someone really wants it the plates give good leverage for twisting the bolt off. But what are the chances of them knowing that and wanting?

I can't speak for Oregon, but when I got pulled over by the Washington State Patrol in my last car and went through a similar experience, I had a pretty long conversation/ debate with him. They actually have a printout now up here that has a list of the major violations that the guy could highlight. Apparently for exhaust, anything modified from oem is considered illegal. Tint is 30% in WA, and there is even a limit of how low a car can be lowered. The front plate has to be attached permanently to the front of the vehicle, the dash is actually a red flag for them to pull you over for it, it draws extra attention that it isn't on the front of the car. Having it in the backseat, a cop is more likely to let you drive on by. But on the flip side if it isn't displayed at all, you will get nailed by a meter maid.

Bottom line @Chen if a thief really wants something, no matter how many precautions you take, they will find a way to take it. Unfortunately...:mad0260:

You all need to understand that it's the small infractions that catch the criminals at large therefore keeping the public safe.

I've never had a front plate on mine. Maybe if you had grey hair like I do they wouldn't bother you about it. I got pulled over by the Washington Patrol shortly after I got my car. The officer wrote me for the speeding, which I was, and never said a word about the lack of a front plate.

Just go pick up a perrin had no problems with mine aside from the lean it had after I failed to tighten it all the way. Better to just avoid the headache than to give the cop a reason to question other things on the car imo.

I'll be picking one up here in a little bit. Just wanted to see what people's experiences were of people tried to steal them. Would hate to spend the money and it get stolen like a week later.

I've had the toe hook license plate mount on my last 4 cars (Lotus, VW, BMW, Subaru) and no one has stolen one yet.

Be careful with the license plate bracket length and placement. It scratched up my mustache since I was re-adjusting the grimspeed one too much. Or taking it on/off for carshows etc.

I got a ticket for it, no fix it. By a meter maid, it was a triple play ticket: Over time parking/Tint/License Plate. I know who it is too, its this short ugly dark stalky woman with a bicycle helmet, even when she is not on a bicycle. I never condone violence against women, but in this case I will drop kick her right in her ovaries.

I ran the car without license plate front and back in SF for 4 months. For the "free bridge tolls" Then the police was like where are you plates? I was like I'm gonna get them install at the dealership when I take it in for service. The officer was like alright but get it done asap you can get a ticket for it. I'm not gonna give you a ticket though.

Wow, I thought it was BS that a meter maid can get you for no front plate (I mean, the car is parked - it's not like they had any problem walking around to the back of the car to get all of the information they needed), but they can nail you for tint too?

I swear I used to love Portland, but ever since I got my car, I seem to dislike living here more often than not :(

Just a word on this - when I got my citation for no front plate, I put mine on with zip ties (I called it my first "mod" :)), but when I went to court to get the citation reduced, and I showed the judge the pictures, he said that I needed to get it affixed, and that "zipties don't hold up in this weather" (which I found laughable, as those little pieces of plastic will be around long after he isn't.)

So if @Chen plans on trying to get it reduced at all, he might get the same treatment. Although it could have just been the judge I got, and maybe another one will let you get away with it (the guy I met with was particularly callous and impatient).

Also - as with all other cheap aspects of our car, the zipties ended up cutting into the plastic on my grill and leaving noticeable, small gashes in it when I did remove the plate - although I probably did tighten them a bit too much as I didn't bend the bottom of my plate, and was worried about it cutting my bumper when I went over a bump, or rough road as it was only about 1mm above the lip of the bumper.

Did she measure it with a meter or just used her super vision?

That would be something I'd actually love to argue against in court from a mechanical and materials engineering standpoint.

The officer Said if I put the plate on and show up the ticket will be dismissed.

I had the towhook mount, but the lack of symmetry bugged me. Thankfully I kept my stock bracket and placed it on my grill.

Wouldn't recommend any more aggressive than locktite blue for anything you think you might feasibly want to get apart again.

she probably couldn't read the parking slip too well through the tint and pissed off her vagina.

Now I think back, I think it said "tint - Warning" or something, but she did tag me for the over time on the parking + no front plate. I got tagged twice with the no plate, had to park outside in DT over night to do the nasty.

If you live in washington, I know the ones that can swing outward are illegal. That being said, its best to sacrifice looks and not be worried everytime you see a cop, even though most kight not care
