Increase aero dynamic?

Is there ways to increase aero dynamic, in other word reduce coefficient of drag ;)?

1. Underpanel?
2. More downforce?
3. Replace rear diffuser?

New research

1. yes. jdm underpanels give -.01 drag co-efficient
2. no, downforce=drag
3. yes, clean the air from the back.

don't for get about aero fender fins, aero mirrors, trd rear trunk garnish, front lip/splitter, canards, blocking out foglights/turnsignals.

Front lip/splitter & canard are downforce mods? The rest I agree.. foglight is ugly ;)

Yes, splitter should add downforce, but generally with a low drag penalty, sometimes it can reduce drag too.

Dive planes, aka canard's again should add downforce, and drag, BUT can reduce some other drag, by redirecting air.

Aero isn't a drag or downforce type of thing, it's always going to be both, and a change one place on the car, can affect the aero at another. That's why race teams look at the L/d, ie lift vs. drag, and try to find the most downforce with the least amount of drag penalty. Compromises have to be made to get the aero balance you want too.

I agree with what you've said. Aerodynamic drag is the drag related to air! Anyways, I got the idea of what to do..

Cd = 0.27

That's pretty good. My goal is 0.20 flat.

how are you going to test it?

aznatama 02-02-2015 05:33 PM

good luck... FWIW,

Prius is 0.25, Tesla is 0.24, and the CLA is 0.22. The only cars below that are the fugly VW XL1 and Ford EV1 at ~0.19.

I don't think you'll get much lower without custom flat underpanels and rear wheel covers...

anything that creates a greater difference between over and under car pressures..... creates downforce.

You should seriously consider selling your car and getting something else if you want that low of a cD.

That is a pretty hefty goal! I think you'll have to remove mirrors, tape the seams, and close up the grill a lot (cooling drag is a killer).

Those numbers are accurate to my mental recollection.

Youre going to need to redesign the whole body of the car. Youre better off buying a different car all together.
