Fully integrated Radar Detector (Beltronics STi-R Plus)

Hello, this is my first thread here, so bear with me.

I managed to do a completely integrated install of a Beltronics STi-R Plus radar detector in my Scion FR-S Release Series. I don't have everything documented, but I have some pics that might help you out if you want to follow my guideline.

First of all, I must say that I wanted everything to be integrated and fully hidden because I'll drive my car in places where having a radar detector is illegal.
I'd seen the whole "rear view mirror integrated display" thing, but it's just not for me, since you're always seeing lights moving through your mirror, so I feel like I wouldn't really notice any changes in the display.
Also, I didn't want the speaker to be under the dash or under any panels, like it usually is, because I usually play music pretty loud, and that way I wouldn't be able to hear it.
I didn't want the remote to be stuck to the dash by the steering wheel or something like that, where I usually see it, because it's clearly seen by anyone who looks through the window (i.e. police officer).
And last but not least, I didn't want the LED or the screen to be inside a vent, because unless you're pointing it to your face, and therefore getting air blown to your face, you won't be able to see it.

So, after spending a couple hours measuring things, I decided to integrate it as it follows:

The screen fits PERFECTLY where the clock is. Sure, you loose the clock, but who cares?

The speaker AND remote fit PERFECTLY in the center console, where the seat heater buttons should be! (sorry BRZ Limited owners and Monogram series owners... no luck for you here, hehe). You can get a center console plate on ebay, amazon, etc and just cover everything in half a second if you get pulled over.

I fit the LEDs (I got a second one from the shop, they had one lying around) inside the fog light indicators. Can't be seen if turned off, and they are always visible, since they're in the dark and right in front of your face.

The GPS antenna and the Radar and laser antenna were mounted using the front bumper's bolts, and we didn't even have to take off the bumper.

And a video of the end product:

I hope it helps! And if you have any questions, I'll be happy to respond!

EDIT: I finally got the center console plate to cover the speaker and remote.

EDIT #2:
The LED's on the fog lights worked great for night time, but they were not cutting it for me during the daytime, as the space available for the light to come out was too thin. I decided to do it again drilling all the way to the turn signal triangles, and it works awesome! And yeah, the green turn signal lights still work as before, and the light just goes through the LED like nothing's there

Damn dude, looks great. How much was the installation? I got a passport 9500ix, but scare of leaving it on the dash and this looks perfect.

The install was $400, but we spent almost 7h working on it.. lots of places charge more per hour

That unit doesn't have any rear antennas?

Now do this with a V1 and I'm sold.

I didn't get the laser jammers, I guess you refer to that.

And the GPS antenna is usually mounted on the rear windshield too, but i preferred to have it hidden under the front bumper

That is a CLEAN install, nicely done!

What sort of visibility does the LiDAR antenna have out the front?

tonystewart 02-02-2015 05:22 PM

Excellent unit, did you mount behind the grill?

The LiDAR antenna is under the front bumper, pointing straight forward, by the headlight. I didn't want it to be on the grill since police in Spain sometimes takes a look to check.
The range it gets is hardly affected by the bumper's plastic. BUT, if you were to install laser jammers, they'd have to be "visible", behind the grill.

Wait u can detect LiDAR now? Cops here sometimes uses LiDAR and people say you can't detect them unlike a radar gun..

You can detect LiDAR. But unless you're catching 'wash' off another person getting hit with it, you're essentially screwed unless you've got a jammer.
