Buyer/seller etiquette

I'm probably going to be selling some parts soon and when I went back into my iTrader rating, I forgot I was given a negative review. It seemed like the would be buyer (buyer A) became upset that I sold the item to someone else other than him. Buyer A replied first and did mention he wanted to check out the item but he lived over 30 minutes away and our schedules did not match up that well. SO rather than hold onto the item for an undetermined amount of time and not even sure he wanted to buy it, I sold it to Buyer B who showed up the same day he asked about the item.

Thoughts?

Buyer A doesn't really have much ground to stand on. It may be proper courtesy to get ahold of Buyer A and inform him of the situation when Buyer B expresses interest, but they can't have you hold your part when they haven't even as much placed some kind of deposit for it. It's first come, first serve. We deal with these situations in my dealership all the time.

"I think I'll sleep over it first."
"Alright. Do you at least want to put a refundable deposit on it to hold it while you decide?"
"Nah. It's just one more day."
"Okay..."

Same day, it gets sold and the next day rolls around...

"What do you mean it was sold!? I told you I was considering it!"
"Sorry, but it's first come first serve. We can't hold a vehicle for someone without a deposit. Unfortunately things like these do happen."
"Well, you just lost business from me! I'm never shopping here again! I'm reporting you to the BBB for bait and switch or something!"

Rest easy buddy. You're in the clear. Buyer A has no claim to the item you sold, and you didn't violate any "etiquette" of sales.

First person to show up with cash wins.

If scheduling didn't work out and you didn't promise buyer A anything (ie: "I'll hold it for you!"), you're clear.
