Need Advice on Chirps and rough idle
Hey! ive owned my 2013 FRS since the end of last month. Its considerably high mileage at 45k.
I have the chirps which seems to be common. I have looked on the forum for fixes and some say putting in better gas can help or replacing the high pressure fuel pump might help. So my question- i Just started putting 93 iin the tank last fill up. Still chirped after driving. Should i let the gas run thru the system a little to see if itll help or should i just break down and take it to Toyota to replace that part. (which some ppl on here say didnt help) I also suffer from the semi rare rough idle. doesnt die but drops pretty low. i took it in without specfically requesting the ECU to be reflashed and they got rid of the CEL but not the rough idle. is the reflash a guarantee fix? I have aftermarket intake and exhaust which i also heard can cause a problem. was just looking for some opinions. any help appreciated. thanks! |
Ignore the chirps, it's harmless, and many new pumps squeak as well. Octane seems to have little to do with it. Chevron seems to be the "best" for my chirps, but I also use a fuel lube. When running E85 they vanish.
Idle, dunno. DO you have any sort of software tune in your car? If not, asking for the latest ROM might be helpful. |

I use Klotz Uplon. Odd name, good stuff. Quote:
It would not hurt to ask your dealer to flash the latest ROM for your car if you have the idle issue. Running E85 is a serious riot. The easiest, by far, solution for that is the OFT (not affiliated). |

and nice do you think ill have better luck on chirps with the lube and premium gas? no hurt trying at least im sure. thanks for all the help buddy! |
Put in ethanol-free gas to get rid of the chirps. Use this to find one near you.http://pure-gas.org/

^^+1^^ Did it for a few months. People will talk about adding lubricants to the fuel. Nope. It has something to do with the stabilizers that go along with the ethanol. E0 was the only thing that really did the trick 100%.
I just got sick of it owning me. Learn to embrace the crickets. <ommmmm...> |

I still chirp with E-free, YMMV. E85 is the only thing that has killed them dead.

so either e0 or e85? ill probably ask some people on my local 86 meet up and see what they did because im pretty sure were lacking on the e0 out here.lame

Your mileage drops a lot running E85, too. Consider a custom tune either way for your car. |
