Need advice on the used Brz. Is this a smart purchase
 

While browsing cars.com I found two limited Brz for about 20k and change.

Both have clean titles but in parenthesis each car says and I quote:

THIS CAR HAS BE REPURCHASED BY SUBARU DUE TO CONCERNS WITH THE FUEL PUMP. IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED AND IS READY FOR SALE

both of these are at the same dealer. Both are limited Manuel transmissions. And it is a subaru dealer.

Should I try to pick one of these up? Or stay away.

Do you think this was due to the crickets? Could they have been lemons too have been bought back by subaru?

Help me out guys. I am familiar with how lemon laws work too so no need to educate me.

Probably a lemon Law repurchase. Lucky owner probably a vast majority of his entire purchase price + interest back on the car, and got to drive it for cheap.

In other words, there's probably nothing wrong with it. Enjoy =D

I'm basically trying to figure out if there are any actual issues with the fuel pump other than the crickets or if the issue is probably more severe and the dealer is downplaying why the vehicles were repurchased in the first place.

As I am not a current owner I wanted to get some opinions from people more well verse in the car and it's issues and tendencies.

What's your initial gut reaction? Jump on it!?! Or more like no way man!!

Are they offering any kind of warranty with them?

Honestly I'd go for it. The fuel system isn't THAT complicated and they do have to actually repair the problem.

Should be fine, if you get crickets again just put some Lucas fuel injector cleaner in your gas tank. At least that's what fixed mine. 20K is a GOOD deal lol since I paid 30K OTD for mine lol

A BRZ is never a smart purchase. A smart purchase is a few years used accord you drive into the ground. Cars like these are purely emotional purchases. There is probably nothing mechanically wrong with the cars you mentioned. Make sure they have a warranty. 20k for a used BRZ doesn't sound like a great deal, just a fair one. You are probably far better off looking in the used car sections here and on nasioc. Get a car with some of the mods you want for a huge discount because people are unable or unwilling to put in the work to minimize their losses because it's emotionally painful.

I say if it has warranty and that's the car you want, go for it.

As long as it's warrantied, there should be no problem. The car can't be listed for sale if it was a Lemon Law buyback until the problem was resolved. I'm sure all they did was replace the HPFP, so it only had a repair that hundreds of others on the forum already have.

My Dad actually purchased a buyback car before, his '95 Impala SS. Still has it and it runs like a champ, with over 250,000 miles on it. Just because it was a buyback doesn't mean it's a bad car.

There haven't really been issues with failing pumps crickets or not. Just the noise. Replacing the pumps doesn't always make a difference and only seems to be done to appease people. I wouldn't worry if that was the only issue with the car.

Exactly... Going on a 86forum and asking if somebody should buy one is kind of like asking a shoe salesman if you need new shoes.

I have to disagree with this to some extent. I waited a very, very long time to get mine and I had a long time to research and compare. It was neither an emotional nor an impulse buy. It's all about your personal needs/wants. The things that people claim make this car impractical are either irrelevant to me or simply non-existent. I got a great deal on a car that fits my driving style and needs perfectly, will last me a very long time, and I'm getting 28mpg,and most importantly I love driving it. It also fits well in the cramped garage.

I haven't had more than 1 passenger in a year or two, and we have a 5 seat focus in the garage if there's ever a need, but seating is meaningless to me. If I have a kid, car seat fits just fine in the back. I've never experienced intrusive road noise, rattles, and I plugged the sound tube. I've got all the bells and whistles, I'm short so it's very comfortable, I drive on decent roads and never complained about how it rides.

IF a fun and great looking, yet practical, 2 door coupe is what you want, then it's a smart car to buy imo

I plan on driving this car to about 75k miles, only because theres another big depreciation hit as you approach 100k, and very possibly buying another one so I can just transfer my mods over. I absolutely love this car.
