New speakers all around!
So I bought my 2013 FRS used and the door speakers have never really been good. They rattle when I turn the volume up so I keep the bass setting down at 0. I don't know if the speakers are blown or if it's just that they all rattle. I've read around and it does seem like rattling is a problem. But either way I plan on getting new speakers. I have a sound Ordnance M1500 amplifier that I wanna use for my door speakers and possibly a subwoofer for the trunk. Any advice and suggestion on what type of speakers to buy and wiring advice?

Not sure if this came up from your research but the rattle could actually be coming from the window switch module. Scroll down to post 9 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24722

my door panels are dynamatted pretty well and they still rattle, the third brake light rattles against the glass pretty bad, had to put some black foam between them to stop the rattle,
im no expert and i didnt want to be "That guy" you hear going down the road so i went with Apline Type R SPR-60C for the door speakers and tweeters, and went with an Alpine Type S SWS-1023D 10" subwoofer in the trunk the Type R's give it some really nice Highs, which i personally like, and the sub is a shallow mounting depth sub so it doesnt take up much room at all! |
i used to think the stock speakers were shitty too (oem audio+ sub in the trunk does help a lil bit), but then i stopped caring after i got my exhaust cuz it didnt matter anymore. every song/talkshow now has the exhaust note as a background lol

As mentioned before, it's much more likely that it is a door card panel or brake light, etc. It's not likely your speakers.
That said, I hooked up an 8" in the trunk with a modest 100-150w (can't remember, but the point is it's not some beast setup). That allowed me to turn the bass down all the way to the interior speakers and let the sub handle it. My rattle issues have been reduced dramatically as a result. not completely, but some strategic foam placement here and there help once the areas are tracked down. |
Well I'm pretty sure it's the actually speakers especially in the driver side. I definitely want new doors and a new subwoofer for the trunk. My amp puts out 500watts RMS so what kind of door speakers should I get. I plan on turning the bass down all the way inside prob and let the sub do all the bass work. But I also want the inside sounding good. Help?

Speakers almost never rattle unless they're blown. Chances are its something else.
You'll probably have more luck with speaker recommendations in the audio forum: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=27 |
The stock speakers are so shitty, any soundtrack that's not from a legit CD will sound bad as it makes a little noise at higher volume. When I rented a Ford Focus the sound was much better. Idk what to say... Either they are superbly good that you hear every little detail or it's just shitty. But I don't even care anymore

You've obviously never heard shitty speakers then ;)
I don't believe anybody is saying the stock speakers are great. But they're not even close to the worst thing I've ever heard in a car, even cars of the same price bracket. Again, conversation better left to the audio forum, two spots down. |
new speakers compared the paper speakers in modern cars is always an improvement.

Yeah I guess I was spoiled with great speakers. I used to volunteer as AV for events like shows for elderly, the equipment we were given to were always superb. The car I had before had aftermarket pioneer speakers all around and a mini sub. I guess I really never heard shitty. So far the only rental car that I've heard that's worse than the frs is Chevy cruz 2014 2LT |
Stock speakers sound pretty good, i have a few friends who are hardcore audiophiles who are impressed by the stock system. For the price, i can't really complain.
But this car isn't worth upgrading audio wise unless you tackle the sound deadening. Kinda like putting putting new wheels on a car with peeling paint. Ha, I've done that! |

Stock speakers aren't paper for USDM. JDM are, and they're terrible I've heard... |
Rattles in the doors are usually not the speakers.
The part that rattles is the switches in the doors (windows / locks). I dynamatted these and rattles are gone. The speakers would distort at high volume due to the stock amp limits but that is still not rattles. Even with the OEM audio plus upgrade for more SQ the door rattles were traced to the switches. |
