3. What's the deal with the DOT legality? I would assume having after market HIDs would be worse than these (non blacked out) tail lights?

1 & 2 Gasket is included. I know there were some issues with condensation when the valenti's first came out a few years ago, but it seems they have learned and fixed up the leaks/condensation problems. The gasket that is included seems pretty thick and "cushy" if you will, and should make a great seal on the tail light to the car.

3. DOT issues...technically you can receive a fix it ticket for non department of transportation lighting, but this is gonna be along the lines of window tint. A risk most people will take. HIDs that are annoyingly bright/aimed incorrectly probably bugs cops more than your red tail lights. YMMV, but anything that is clear or red probably runs a pretty low risk of being pulled over/ticketed. The smoked lens versions are rather bright(running lights and brake lights) despite being tinted/smoked, so hopefully that helps since visibility is the main concern for other traffic/cops.

For what it's worth, I have the smoked valenti's and they aren't that dark. Don't get me wrong, there are dark, but during the day you can see the light bars pretty clearly. The only thing I would imagine being a little harder to see is the blinker lights, but the running lights and brake lights are easily visible.

The red look fantastic. Definitely a contender against the red Toms for my favorite on WRB. Any chance someone has or can make a short video showing the break lights and turn signals on it. I too am curious if the red makes those lights any more difficult to see.

1) Yes, and it seems to be a better gasket than OEM.
2) Negative, unless it's a defect or installed wrong.
3) They're E-coded lights, meaning they're likely 100% legal (though this is a bit of a gray area as some states allow them). DOT vs E-code is more important for headlights because of their cutoff.

HID's would be worse in that they don't meet any standards.

can you take a pic in direct sunlight with brakes on.
curious if they changed the LEDs for the brake and turns to make them brighter

They don't need to be changed, they're VERY bright. They don't show up well in photos.
